More here and here. If you've just updated uTorrent then check your task manager for EpicScale.exe. If it's running, stop the process and head to C:\Program DATA and delete the EpicScale folder. Might be worth running your favourite malware removal tool at this point too.
Sneaky buggers. Its not the first time such a thing has happened though. I'm using torrents less and less these days with services like Spoiler Pornhub, Netflix and Spotify, so I suppose this is as good a reason as any to finally remove uTorrent and stop downloading stuff.
This. I never trust proprietary software, as this is the stuff they can do without anyone noticing (until they get greedy, at least).
Glad I dumped uTorrent and moved to Deluge now, the ads stopped me using it as they were bordering on NSFW but now this just takes the piss.
It's an "option". You can just uncheck it on installation. No different to many other pieces of software that offer other installations. That said, Deluge is my go to when I want a new ISO. It just works.
I switched to Deluge but I found set up not quite simple as Utorrent. No matter which pot I give it I still get the yellow triangle. Seems to work OK though even so.
As far as I can ascertain this doesn't affect OSX machines. I don't think EpicScale even has an OSX version in the first place, so this was a completely unnecessary mild panic for me.
