Well that can't be right, I've been told not a single leave supporter has changed their mind, that other leaver supports have never come across someone like this.

 

Not forgetting former Vote Leave staffer Oliver Norgrove going, iirc, 'Brexit is a **** show, I'd still rather we leave but if we stay I won't be that bothered'

You had one vote of no confidence in May, one vote of no confidence in the Government, three votes on the May WA plus if she agrees anything with Corbyn you'll get a vote on that too... but want even more votes.
Yet the same people happily peddle the line that a 2nd ref would be "undemocratic".

EDIT: Parliament has just voted through the Cooper-Letwin bill, which requires the PM to seek an extension to article 50, thus aiming to stave off the prospect of the UK crashing out of the EU with no deal by accident.

They voted to accept the final Lords amendment by 390 votes to 81 – a majority of 309.

 

Those 81 being the DUP, 70 Tories including the haunted pencil Rees-Mogg and 1 Labour MP [yes, yes it was Kate Hoey, how did you guess?]

 

All suddenly not so in love with "sovereignty" and "democracy" anymore.

 

well they are trying to remove the MP responsible for the amendment which allowed them to vote against Maybot's deal. were it not for Grieve we've have left on may's negotiated terms and there's shag all the ERG could've done about it.

So no deal Brexit is now illegal, at least until the end of June, then what?

We've entered a quantum state of Brexit.

 

From what i can make out reading through the bill it legislates that the PM must not seek an extension that ends earlier than the 22nd of May and that any further extension dates must be put before the house (voted on) and that the date is amendable.

Basically anytime we want an extension it must be put to an amendable vote in parliament.

I'm not sure that prevents leaving without a deal as technically the government could still simply not bother to ask for an extension.

 

All it does is stop May (even that is legally questionable) from determining the proposed length of the extension on her own.
In practice this means May must put an amendable motion before Parliament to determine what length of extension the UK wants.

But there is indeed no Plan B in it...

What happens if MPs can't agree on the date?
What happens if MPs agree on a date and May asks for that but the EU wants a different date?
What happens if MPs agree on a date, May asks for it, the EU grants it but then the May WA still doesn't pass the HoC?
What happens if MPs agree on a date, May asks for it, the EU grants it but then due to the cross party talks the UK changes its opinion on what to ask for?

The legislation provides answers to none of those questions.

 

This is only my layman's understanding so I'd welcome other opinions.

I think if they can't agree then the PM wouldn't be allowed to ask for an extension.

The date is a no earlier than X thing so if the EU wanted a different date it would have to either be later than the date specified or it would be ignored.

We'd be in the same situation as we're in now, that's to say if May's WA didn't pass the government would either request another extension or not.

It wouldn't as wanting to change the date after it's been set doesn't change anything materially, the only thing that would change it is agreeing a deal, if we can't agree a deal we run the clock down and go cap in hand to the EU again.

 

Not all: it requires an extension to be sought. It removes the option to just twiddle thumbs and run down the clock (as TM has done so far) to offer a false choice between No Deal and a deal nobody actually wants.
