    Hi all,

My trusty Dell 2407wfp just died.

I loved that monitor and it had a decent 8bit PVA panel in it.

So it's time to buy a new monitor, I'm not a big gamer and don't really need anything much bigger 24" although I wouldn't say no to going up to around 28/30"

I'm totally out of date on kit!

Are TN panels still to be avoided or has the technology caught up?

What can I get for £100? Or should I be going second hand?

    Appreciate your thoughts!

RIP your 2407 :( Awesome, awesome monitors.

Are you wedded to a particular resolution? I think I'd really struggle to drop down from 1200p to 1080p (even though it seems like a minor change, it'd bother me no end). You can get a Dell U2412M from Amazon for just over £150 if you're looking for a like-for-like replacement, although it's over your £100 budget.

If I was going above 24" then I'd probably not do so at 1080p - I reckon 1440p at 27" is roughly equivalent to 1080p at 24", but that might be budget-busting too.

And I'd probably avoid TN panels too, as they tend to be a bit grim (and will almost certainly be inferior to your old monitor).

    Think I'll need to stick with 1920 x 1200

    I don't mind 60hz, I've only ever had 60hz, so I don't know any difference.

If it makes a sizeable difference in happy to chuck around £150 at it.

The Samsung one is a 29" Ultrawide, which is basically equivalent to a 24" 1080p with extra screen space on the sides.

    As for that £80 27" Dell, I'd give that a go:thumb:

    Thanks chaps.

    I've emailed the Dell.

May consider the Samsung as a stop gap (can always sell it on again) if I don't hear back from the Dell by the end of the day.

That one is the MVA panel, I bought the IPS panel - the model number has a "D" suffix denoting the difference. The IPS version is a great monitor, I am loving mine - it's a lot of screen real estate.

Link to IPS version (only £13 more): https://www.cclonline.com/product/a...ps-panel-amd-freesync-75hz-silver-q3279vwfd8/

I've got one of those, great monitor, loads of space compared to 1080. IPS for only £13 sounds like a bargain.

This is the monitor I have had for the last 6 months.
    Great screen for the price.

    Thanks all.

Just setup the Dell 2711 a few minutes ago.

Got it for £60 in the end as it's got a bit of backlight bleed along one edge, bargain by all accounts.

I've never seen a backlight bleed like this one though, it's basically a thing vertical line (1mm wide) right on leftmost edge of the screen, it's hard to spot on anything but a pure black background so I think I can just forget it's even there. I would have said it was a stuck line of pixels, except it's not bright and not a colour, just a little faded or overbright line.

    Loving life at 2560 x 1440!
