It won't draw me back to the delights of Android and being monitored by Google.

I'd say yes, especially on non-flagships/mid/budget where any significant waterproofing is a lot less common.

I've not had any on my Samsung, so I don't know what you're talking about :)

I'd say my pixel 5 is probably the most unintrusive phone I've ever had, more so than the Samsung's before that. Apple doesn't advertise but they've probably sold my data somewhere :p

To be honest it’s not really advertising on my phone that was the problem, I put a stop to as much as possible but, even so everything you do is an opportunity to shove advertising at you.

I avoid Google as much as I can and never, ever sign in to anything Google owned. On the other hand, whilst still on Android, my wife was always getting advertising linked to whatever shops she had bought from.

Just as likely for companyies to be buying purchase histories a lot of the time...

I go the other way and am always signed in to google on all my devices. If google wants to show me or sell me things that I'm interested in then great! As it turns out, I am actually interested in things that I am interested in! I always feel like adverts are less intrusive when they are actually for relevant things, rather than just random crap. Each to their own of course

Until they know you too well and just shove stuff in your face you already have...
Looking at you Amazon, no I don't need another five of what I just bought a week ago.
