a few times on boot up i have a bad check sum error and the bios has reset to default and the time and date has changed, im thinking the motherboard battery is on the way out, anyone have any other idea
I'm not sure a flat battery would give you a checksum error - its a bios error right? What is the MOBO and what date does the BIOS default to?
its a asus p5e, had it for about two years with no problems untill now, cant remember the date it reset itself to
The battery powers the CMOS (where the BIOS settings and info about the hardware is stored). If it fails, the CMOS will lose it's info, and the integrity check won't succeed (wrong checksum).
