Sorry about the title - couldn't think how else to describe it. I am wondering how LEDs would shine through a piece of plexi if I bent it. I want to bend a piece of plexi to mount an LCD in so it sits on my desk and I can use it as a clock with LEDs shining in from the back and wondering what sort of effect it would give me. You can try to in case your diagram in code tags to try to keep the spaces. As for the plexi, I'm surmising if you mean directing the LED in parallel to the piece of plexi then it should depend on the internal reflection of the plexi you are aiming through as to whether it will shine throughout the plexi or be refracted.
and the colour of the led's. The perspex could be lightly sanded with fine sandpaper, should give an even gradient of lighting going away from the led's.
Would it light up the edges past the bend ie the vertical edges or would the light only show on the edges sitting on the desk ?
**some** would show on the upright edgesm how much depends on the material, i cant help you there, test it on a small test peice.
As long as the bend is a curve and not an angle(or too sharp), internal refraction *should* reflect it around the bend.
The light follows the path just fine... I'll post some more 'modern' pictures in a bit, but... these are taken from my little project log (ie, The Gospel) 'The Chrome Goat'. Keep in mind that these panels are over 2 feet high... so... each glowing blue is only 1 LED, and... they are some of the dimmest LEDs I've used. Brighter LEDs glow sooo much better... 'more' LEDs per wall made the effect beautiful.
