Ok im going to scrap the idea of makign a 64bit system and upgrade my machine with a athlon xp 3000+ and 1GB of DDR 400 and use the cpu and ram from this and put it in my server, and then give that to my mam, and get a shuttle to replace the server :thumb:

Isnt an XP 3000+ needed to run ram at 400 ddr ?

Hopefully not cos then I'll be able to upgrade now instead of waiting for XP 3000+ to fall down into my price range :)

About the 3800+ vs. the 3700+...considering they're the same clockspeed, I wouldn't necessarily say the 3800+ is faster (yeah, yeah, its rated higher)...it depends what will yield more performance, dual channel memory (3800+) or twice the cache (3700+).

Also depends on where you want your performance. Bigger cache will be better in some situations, where as larger memory throughput will be better in others.
But aside from that, the 939 is the better platform overall IMO, mainly because its only going to get better. I know AMD have pledged to keep bringing out chips for 754, but how long is that going to last??
