Retro Fallout vs Geforce 7600 GT

Hey all,
I recently got a copy of Fallout to play while I wait for Falout 3. Im using a Geforce 7600 GT (9.2.9.1 drivers).
Problem is that when i start the game the screen flickers and is covered in black (moving the mouse around reveals the map momentarily); Ive tried out the various compatibility (winxp pro sp2) options but it didnt help so im all out of ideas, and unable to play a classic that i missed out on; is there any software solution to my problem?

if you cant find any info to help you out on the no mutants site, do what I did and grab a copy of VM and an old copy of 98/95 100% compatibility!

 

once you get it working, have fun with the menu interface.

that thing drove me nuts. FO2 wasn't much better.

 

whats VM and from where, i cudnt find any install guide on no mutants, i downloaded the game as a torrent, it only had a few files in it..

 

VM is virtual machine, essentially you can run multiple OS's at the same time (i've got 98 2000 and 2003 VM's setup running on xp64 bit) it helps if you've got compatibility issues, ie you need fat32 or *shudders* FAT instead of NTFS etc.

ok can you point me in the direction of the correct VM (whats the name of the program?) that will allow me to play this game, im quite fond of torrents but if this is a shareware tool thats cool.

 

Ah sorry I thought everyone knew what VM was. I'd only use it as a last resort since it takes alot of space, not the VM program itself but the hard drive file it creates can be a few gigs big. It covers literally every problem and is populated by comments by many of the older developers. Amazing that you couldn't find it, since it's a sticky at the top of the tech forum on NMA

If that fails THEN try VM, since the above will save you a lot of bother in the long run.

Fallout is a great game, so give it a chance before you give up on it. It's nothing to do with your video card though, it's to do with either your HDD or your OS, since these are what Fallout needs to run.

As for the menu interface...what's wrong with it? Clear, simple and easily explained, everything is in front of you and easy to use. The turn-based style may be to everyones taste, but the menus themselves are flawless and I can't imagine what problems anyone might have with them.
