If your place was on fire and you only had enough time to grab 1 thing from your desktop what would you take with you and why? You cant say "the whole desktop" btw and "watercooling loop" counts as more than one thing. Id go for the HDD.
Hard drive for me too... but I would also grab my cat and laptop, which would be possible being as I live in a ground floor flat, with a window that's big enough to get out of if I do something wierd to it...
I'd kick the tower out my window.. it sits on the edge and below is a bush which would break it's fall
Wouldn't it take more time to take your hard drive out of your machine that to just grab your entire machine? So it would just have to be my entire PC (the tower, not kb/mouse/monitor). Too much work and too many photos on those hard drives.
I've thought about this countless times and I would take my PC and my super nintendo. Screw your "only one thing" rule. My SNES > your rule
I'd take my macbook as that has all my documents on it. All my PC has on it at the moment is games that are on steam anyway.
Speakers. My backup disk is in my laptop case, and the laptop outperforms the desktop any day of the week. Screens are easy to replace, so I'll grab my big heavy expensive speakers and leg it.
PC and headphones (theyd be on my head) hdd data is not replaceable. 'things' are. supermonkey, your child sits on your desktop?
i think i am supposed to say my laptop, but it is usually sitting on my bed...not my desk. the next thing i would grab would be my photo album of me and my girlfriend.
Like everyone else by backup HDDs and since they're right on my desk I'd have time to grab my monitor too
Backup HDD here too, Its just on really long sata/power cables and sits under my monitor shelf, so its really easy to swipe on the way out.
My Macbook's bag. It's got a bucketload of work in it (on the Macbook - which is always packed into the bag when not in use), and large parts of my music collection (on the external in the laptop bag). As well as invoice books, client proposals, etc. IF you had said "from your house", i'd have said my guitar.
Seeing I'm in the 8th. floor, I'd be lucky to take myself out if there was a fire in the building. I've actually been thinking if it would be better to jump on the roof of the neighbouring house, it has only 6 or 7 floors and there's a gap of a couple of meters to cover... In wintertime that would be no problem with almost a meter of snow to land into.
I have 2 servers... one mirrors to the other, and the second is in the garage. I'd happily let the home PC's burn, and spend time making sure my wife and cat are safe.
