News Laser Printers can be harmful

A team of Australian scientists have discovered that laser printers can be harmful to your health.

 

So having mine sat on my desk around a foot from me would be pretty bad then?

 

I have an HP Laser Jet 4350n less than one foot away from where I sit....... Sign me up for the cancer screening.

 

I had my LaserJet in a separate room... not because of toner or anything, but because the noise it makes really annoys me.

 

Yea, last week the fearmongers were trying to convince us that WIFI was the primary cause for something or other.

Lets all take bets as to when someone tries to convinces us that H20 is evil and we should all stop consuming it.

I doubt it could be a serious threat at home. Things get more complicated when your employer tells you to sit next to one that is in continuous use. The effects may start to arise after years of exposure.
Then again it might be for nothing. At the place where I work there's a guy who's been inhaling poisonous acidic fumes for 15 years and he's still alive and well.

 

i know they don't like you inhaling toner, whenever you fill a toner cartridge you should wear a mask

but it doesn't actually so how much toner is in the air in the office, just that it increase 5 fold during the day
so it could be there is 1PPM normally and in office hours there are 5PPM

It also doesn't say how dangerous they are, or what effect it might have - but laser printers have been around a long time, and in use in offices for a long time, and i don't know any complaints of the effects ....

I doubt it's all that much anyway. I'd bet it'd be harmless.

 

After reading that, I'm fearful for my life. lol. I've been a graphic designer and screen printer for going on 20 years now; 12 professionally. I sit next to, currently, an HP Laserjet 5100, about 2 feet from me. Oh well.

If anything were to kill me, it'd be the horrid noxious printing chemicals I use 5 days/week for the past dozen years. Now THERE'S a way to go! Death by Mineral-Spirits Ignition!

 

What about the ozone that laser printers emit? Is that not more dangerous than toner?

I also think that the pic in the article should actually be a laser printer rather than an inkjet, but that's just me being picky

 

Isn't it ironic that the picture they chose to use to illustrate this story is an Inkjet printer...

 

Some how doubt it. That is like microwaves, and they haven't killed anyone yet, well, I haven't heard anything.

id be more wurrued if laser printers (norm office laser printer that can do A4 and A3 size ones) in an confided space little or no air movement it must be bad for health the toner power it self is not somthing you should breath in toxic

 

I'd still rather have a laser than my crappy inkjet, no matter how fast they get, they won't be anywhere near as good as a laser printer.

 

It's a printer.
It's a bit hard to find royalty free images of a laser printer (trust me, I looked for fricken ages) and I don't think my 1.3MP phone camera would do the job even though I had a laser printer beside of me.

I'll do better next time, I promise.
