10Gbit/sec...now all we need is some crazy type of solid state HDD that plugs directly into the PCI-E 2.0 slot and matches the read/write of the network.

And the switches, routers, cables to support it...

Plus, it says it has 5GB/s bw.. not 10? or do you have to have two PCIe2 slots to get 10gbit?

You can get both switches and disk systems that have the speed to keep up with it, they just cost a (tiny) bit

I think thats 5gb per lane
so a 16c PCIe2.0 card would have a max bandiwdth of around 8GB/sec

Even the current PCIe standard has more than enough bandwidth for current networking and RAID cards, though the most recent RAID cards are getting close with around 2GB/sec.

How much bandwidth do top-end graphics cards pull through atm, it strikes me that they may be close.

What worries me is the 150W slot+ 150W plug combination!
    Thats 300W for a GFX...even 600W in SLI. Great!
Wasnt it Tim who talk about the way systems go ATM? Thats the wrong direction!

    lmao :p

also, if it needs PCI-E2 why does the spec say
    "PCI Express x8"

HM cos its a 1.25Gbps card, so it only needs a x8 PCI-E slot
Why is bit saying it needs a PCI-E2 slot ?

Also, dang that card costs more then a reasonable computer

Wasn't there a recent article having to do with large amounts of power consumption?

Hooray, all motherboards being useless :( I'd hope that this is backwards compatible (1 in 2, 2 in 1 etc) or i'll be mighty pissed.

"also doubling the amount of power that can be drawn through the slot to 150W"

Does this mean were gonna see more power hungry cards? If one slot needed 150w and you had SLi or Crossfire setup that would be 300w just for the graphics cards let alone everything else! :hehe:

Backwards compatible, yes, it's stated in the article (i.e. 1 in 2), for forwards compatible (2 in 1)? How often does that happen in computing?

As for the 600W we're presumably going to see being needed for Crossfire and SLI set-ups, lol, me thinks people are going to need bigger power packs! Hopefully this increase in power will reach a plateu soon and it won't just keep eponentially increasing.

As for the bandwidth speed though, mmm, very nice.
