Morning Guys, I've been asked to spec out a HTPC Build for a friend who wants to run the Audio thru his slightly aged Amp. I'm not all that experienced with passing audio through to an amp so was wondering what the best outputs/imputs to use. I was thinking of going with the GA-H55N-USB3 - and I3 but not sure if it will have the requisite Audio connections.... If one of you could kindly advise me it would be mucho apprciated
You're going to need to decode the audio in software and output over analogue to the EXT in sockets if you want to get HD audio from bluray
You could also use the optical S/PDIF as well and output AC3, using the digital optical inputs on the amp. That amp is too old to decode any of the HD audio formats, so that's a non-starter anyway (the 7.1 it talks about is just upmixed 5.1) unless you use analogue inputs like saspro suggests (although I'm not sure whether it has 7.1 inputs or just 5.1 inputs). Best option is to get him to upgrade his amp (to something like this) at the same time - that way, you can use the HDMI port on the motherboard to carry sound and video to the amp.

if you want more than stereo from games, etc. Youll need 5.1 analog cables hooked up, instead of spdif. Thats the general idea with the spdif, find a 1/8 to rca, probably mono. and plug into the receiver. _____________ VLC Player
