Hello! I have quite a weak lower back after a mountain bike accident a few years ago. It tends to get really sore after doing a days hard work and sometimes I put it out quite badly. What is the best way to build up my core? Would it be best to see an expert before starting to exercise it in anyway? I did Pilates for 6 weeks and that seemed to help but then work took over my life again! Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Intersted in advice too, had a motobike accident in Jan and no am seriously fooked, used to be very active, took a work with mrs today and I was a mess after.
Pilates is brilliant! I rarely suffer from sciatica(sp) anymore. It's worth seeing your GP about as I got referred to classes through the NHS. Also I find staying active is better for my bad back rather than staying in bed or on the sofa.
Hi I suffer from occasional lower back although mine is mainly a side effect of some degenerated Discs in the lumber region of my spine. I find staying active is much better for the pain than resting and when it gets sore I usually go out for a walk or a cycle. Swimming is also good for a bad back.
It would almost certainly be best to see an expert first, as they will give you the correct exercises for you to do, I had a similar problem, and just did the plank exercise, and sitting on an excersice ball when gaming http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/abdominalcorestrength1/a/NewCore.htm
I've got scoliosis, and then borderline Sherman's disease in my spine, so my back is ****ed quite nicely at times. After work where everything is quite low down and I have to stoop. I went to see a doctor about it a while ago and after the worlds most painful MRI scan they came to the above conclusion, the Physio recommended getting one of those bouncy medicine balls, and using that instead of a PC chair, as it forced me to sit upright and worked my back muscles at the same time. That could be worth a try, but before that, get your self an appointment with your GP to see if they can get you referred to specialist.
A friend in work used a book by Robin McKenzie called Treat your own back. He reckons it helped sort his back out. Try looking on amazon.
A 1000 times this... No but seriously go see a chiropractor. I see one every couple of months and it helps so much.
I fell 2 floors backwards down a empty lift shaft and hit a concrete lintel and bounced out otherwise it would have been 4 floors if not for that lintel. Badly damaged my lower back, I did weight lifting very light and few reps and slowly built it up from that it worked well for me.
Just to echo the others: Go see someone professional. Other than that: Very slow, very light excercise. Preferably swimming. Then expand bit by bit with more and more reps - not more and more kilos.
another vote for chiropractor or osteopath, i have used both and found it helps, i have chronic lower back pain due to a car accident & being 6ft tall doesn't help either, also i can recommend glucosamine & quitting coffee helps alot of people, or going decaff, apparently caffeine can exacerbate pain!
