meh apparently this is just to show off with and these are not going to be produced in any great quantity. Hence the price.. so they don't run out suspiciously fast.

LOL that's a ridiculous price. That's like $800 for a video card. LOL. ATI needs to get their butts out there so we can see a friggen price drop. Jeeze. Nvidia is totally screwing the consumer on this one.

The only good thing I've heard about this is that the new revision on the silicon will allow for much higher OC's than the GTX. there may be hope if there's some OC versions with insane factory OC's, but I doubt I would buy one anyway.

slight update -- the pricing information we were given appears to be well off the pricing that partners have the card on pre-order for. :(

They will probably go down after a bit... the GTX started out above list price when originally released. I think it was something like $75 past the Nvidia's price for the BFG version.

the other issue is that since it's the same core, the overclocking gains will be less than a GTX (if you're insane enough to void the warranty on the ultra(s) in the first place)

I think, or rather, I know that Nvidia is cherry picking cores for the Ultras. All G80 cores are coming from the same wafers, with the Ultra chips being the ones closest to the centre (generally the 'best' chips when it comes to overclocking, power leakage, etc). GTXs are the remaining 'good' cores and the GTSs are the ones with either defects or those that don't pass the speed grade requirements for either GTX or Ultra binning.

its standard chip fab practice, Intel uses the same method for sorting the C2D chips into Extreme or regular.

on the upside a specially produced ultra (with more SPs) would cost way more than this method.

Im actually interested in the TDP for this Ultra & power consumption.
    Any info on these Tim?

Also when does the NDA for the R600 stop?

    I hope its legal. :worried:

the R600 is supposed to have 320 of them.

but being a self-outed nvidia fanboy I'll stick with my 680i and WC GTXs :naughty:

    Says it all, really.

And yes, I, too, would like x64 benchmarks with newer hardware. :)

    I agree..!!

Anyway, this is still completely silly to me, but then I play Guild Wars, which runs smooth on my XT850 with all the eye candy maxed.

As for Vista/DX10, well GW2 is due to come out in beta some time in 2008, so I guess that will be the time I start looking at upgrading...
