Can someone explain why I would need wifi fans?

Because it will probably be the latest way to control your RGB everything.

I'd be more worried about the frameless aspect, fingers and cables normally come of worse when it comes to fast spinning blades, then there's how they get around the tendency for air to spill of the ends of blades, something a frame reduces and directs.

 

To change the led colour while on holiday on another continent to confuse the person you asked to feed your cat?
That is about the only "real use" I could think of.

What it is in my opinion is just another pointless thing "invented" in the pursuit of bloating feature lists to make them longer than those of the competition without examining the value of the new feature.

 

So how are you going to generate any amount of pressure when trying to either push air through the fins of a heatsink or radiator when the option is to just spill out sideways and do ... nothing?

If it, by any chance, follows any standard or has open API - so you can sync them with your room lighting. Also I heard home assistants are popular now, so you could (theoretically) control the fans by voice.

Also it give one more vector for attackers to get into your network, why wouldn't you want it?

 

It's time for another Good Idea, Bad Idea!
GOOD IDEA: Implementing a short-range wireless control protocol for fans/pumps/RGB/etc to reduce internal cabling clutter and allow for an arbitrary number of fans to be controlled from a single device
BAD IDEA: Doing it with WiFi

 

I may just be being dumb and half awake but how would it help woth cabling clutter?

My fans have one cable, for power. These fans still need power and I can control via software and/or just set up with the profile I want.

Even in the days when I had a fan controller those cables were the smallest in the case and were quickly moved out of the way.

Not sure how a wireless control would help anything.

 

I've got the Corsair RGB fans, and they use:
- Power cable each
- Lighting cable each
- Box for said cable
- Another cable to connect to another box
- Usb cable for connecting last box
- Power cable for each box.

To me, having one wireless box and then power cables would save a LOT of hassle cable-tidying

 

Now I see.

Seems like a lot of cables and boxes for fans.

Can see them being annoying. I'll stick with my single cablers ta.
