as soon as i win the lottery im gonna be splashing out on a few of http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon7000/7500/X8OBN-F.cfm and throw in a nice sprinkling of http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=53580&processor=E7-8870&spec-codes=SLC3E thats 80c/160t per fully populated motherboard!!! would probably put quite a dent into the lottery prize money. especially wit the leccy bills but it would sooooo be worth it!
as OMGWTFBBQ!!! as that may be... those CPUs wont go on that board plus the sensible voice in my head says bang for buck would probably swing in favour of a shitload of 2x00 SB chips [and parts to turn them into PCs]
It just so happens that i was looking for a motherboard for my spare E7-8870's i have lying around, and acting as drinks coasters...........
All joking aside I do have a spare eight-core X7560 sitting in my desk drawer right now. It's so big, every now and then I get it out to scare the lads into writing faster
James you tease! lol Looking forward to some reviews on these and the 10 core bad boys later in the year, if you want any longer-term testing done I have spare data centre space
It's already been reviewed (I linked to it in my last post), but we haven't been able to review the 10-core version yet as they're pretty rare so getting hold of a system is proving a challenge. Perhaps once Computex is out of the way I'll have time to chase up Intel again, and maybe borrow some more time on one of its clusters too
