Windows transfering steam games from pc to laptop

has some thing changed with steam recently?

i have tried copying some of my steam games fall guys, halo MCC, kerbal, titan fall 2 to my sons laptop games have been placed in the same common folder. its been a while but in the past when u clicked install for the game steam would just check and validate it. now its fully downloading the games again.

 

Use the backup and restore games feature, worked perfectly when I moved to my new PC.

 

Yep another vote for backup and restore. Just be thankful you're not using Epic Games Launcher - I had to redownload a 100GB game overnight despite already having it installed on another HDD...

 

yep ended up doing that in the end, but have been told you need the .acf files from steamapps folder as well when just copying games over.
as for EGL what i did for fortnite was log in and start down load waited for 50md or so to down load then quit app. copy and over write the fortnite folder with the full one from my pc then restart the app i did the same with battlenet and over watch

 

I just keep a backup copy of the entire Steamapps folder and use that.
