Slightly weird question I know, no one ever seems to mention country music these days. Weirder still that I am a brit I guess.

Eitherway, modern country is absolutely brilliant, much more upbeat, more modern, but still definitely country. I listen to it all day over the wmp radio function whilst at work.

I was just curious if anyone else likes it?

No, and I'd never listen to it (only if I married some rich/fit/country singer) ;)

I find it only mildly nauseating on a good day. It gets filed alongside rap under 'stuff that must be kept away from my ears at all cost'.

Only older 'real' country (Country Western), like Pat Boone, Patsy Cline, Waylon Jennings, and of course The 'Man in Black" himself Johnny Cash. Not the stuff they pass off now-a-days as country, but all it is is rock n' roll with S-kickers on; s-kickers that don't fit well. lol.

    I have really eclectic tastes.

Oi, Scots folk isn't country and should not be mentioned in any way that implies it's close :D (I listen to a fair bit of Highland and general Scottish modern folk. Some is incredibly awesome)

I listen to some stuff that is termed folk-country or alt-country. Iron & Wine, Calexico, Bongshang. I have some Johnny Cash, but truth be told I think most of the older stuff sucks and the only song that comes to mind which I like is his cover of Hurt, originally by Nine Inch Nails. There's got to be a few good artists out there beyond the amalgamation stuff though, because every genre has good in it. Without fail.

This thread makes me want to make a scottish folk music thread.

btw this is what I'd class as modern country:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GcVnhNjWV0 - this one could apply to alot of people on here ;)

Just so you get an idea.

Now if you don't like it, for god sake don't ban me from the forums!

Aren't there different types of Country music?

I like Bluegrass, so artists like Alison Krauss (and Union Station) and Nickel Creek share the playlist with bands like Urban Dance Squad and RATM. I don't just like one genre of music and tend to listen to a good mix of stuff.
