Other Recommend a wall stud finder

Can anyone recommend a stud finder? I want to make sure I get something reliable so I don't wreck my walls.

 

Bosch Truvo, never failed me yet

 

Yeah, that's what I have and it's been excellent.

 

It has little marker line you can make a cross with too, or just square off a no go area

 

Piece of string with a neodymium magnet on the end. Works like a charm and costs nothing.

 

Cost nothing except for the string and magnet and works if you have steel studs. The true freebie is a knuckle, I'd had mixed success with it though so I cannot recommend it.

 

I use a magnet as well with wooden studs finds the drywall screws easily

 

Somewhere inbetween string+magnet and the Bosch one is this Tacklife unit. I have one and it's decent enough, although it does give an occasional false positive.

I have the truvo and it has worked well, it is even good at finding out if your puppy has eaten brass tacks and needs a visit to the vet which she did

 

I looked at both the Tacklife and Bosch ones but was a little put off by some of the reviews. Part of me wonders if that just user error, though.

 

I suspect so - they tend to need a little finesse and patience to use, something Joe Public tends not to have...
