sorry to burst your oxygen bubble... if you remove oxygen from the water, you're left with hydrogen and some other bits of impurities. why would you want that? you can't freeze a monitor in hydrogen... that would be no fun.

I think mister Wonka was refering to the oxygen molecules in the water, not the oxygen ions. In any case Distilled water is basically pure water with no other ions disolved in it. But it will probably still contain oxygen gas disolved in it so they may appear as bubbles as they do in normal ice though probably not as much.

Distilled water is purer than filtered.

lol! (btw if you do my patented re-freeze trick it should be ultra clear ;) )

and lol @ people being silly about removing oxygen atoms from h20. What actually happens is that O2 dissolves in the water, and floats around having a good time, but when it freezes the ice gets rather bored of the oxygen, which is shoved out the way, eventually all the poor oxygen ends up socialising with themselevs in little air-pockets becuase the ice just doesnt love them anymore. :waah:

For some reason when I read this I got this weird image of H2O molecules using and abusing O2 molecules. :worried: The sex life of water. Lol

lol that reminds me of a science class where we were learning about the electrolysis of water where the teacher used the sex life of hydrogen and oxygen as an example.

I'm now onto the third freeze of my hard drive. There is a lot of crap floating around in the water, maybe I should filter that out. I'll get back once I've frozen it, I think I forgot to put it in the freezer last night...

O rings man. bolt that sucker down to something. If you cant get O rings (and let's face it, who can?) I'd go with window caulking or something- it's pliable enough to seal something down but itll get brittle when its cold.

There's an interesting thing. Last night the ice block with the floppy in it was completely frozen in clear ice. I didn't know what to do with it, so left it in the freezer overnight and took it out this morning and the ice is no longer clear all over. It seems like there is such a thing as overfreezing, where if you freeze it for too long the oxygen clumps woof82 was talking about becomes visible. So if you have frozen it completely and the ice is clear, stop freezing!

Hmmm if i want to freeze something whats the best way of doing it? Because if i put it into a container and fill it up wont it be like stuck in the container?

Have a flexible container or turn it upsidedown and bash it out!

Or you can run the container under cold water and it will slide out.
So we need a gallery of all our frozen stuff how bout we make a frozen stuff thread?
    Actually why not?

The freezing is going fine, eccept for this little niggle:
Where i cut the the hole the almost frozen water kept being pushed up by the pressure. Looks cool now but i dont think it will be as nice later (if i don't refreeze it, witch i will).

Since it's almost done freezing i thought i might add some more water while waiting for ice to form inside the crt too. The result?

A crack right infront of the screen, from just half a cm of water...
I closed the lid and went to update instead.

A big thanks to the only member of my family not thinking i'm totally crazy for doing this. He lives in finland, so what do you expect. ;)

If my calculations are correct there is room for 80l of water wich is 80kg, not being full i would estimate 75l in there + 10 kg for the box. about 85 kg.

But whatever in those airtight containers, with the pump on top to get oxygen out.

    Jobs a guddun.

Um... In a vacum chamber, you'd drop below the critical pressure of water, and it would evaporate and get pumped out. Sorry, but won't work.
