Nothing to fear except the fear of being sued for calling your new game F.E.A.R. 2 it seems:

    http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2006/02/22/monlith_fear_sequel/

Do they call the new game P.H.E.A.R.? The first game was called that because it stood for First Encounter Assault Recon. Should the sequel then be called S.E.A.R. as in Second Encounter? I suspect CroTeam might object to that one...

    Ideas?

hasn't something similar happened to Crytek and far Cry do Far Cry 2 will be called Crysis?

But have to say looking foward to F.E.A.R. 2 and Crysis as they were excellent engines and games (smae fear didn't scale at all well, looked terrible on low)

Yeah Farcry is in the same boat.

How about Wasteland or Desolation since the facility exploded and took out part of the city.

Same thing happened with CM and FM...

Sports Interactive made old Championship Manager and owned the database/engine/etc, but EA owned the rights to the name.

Hence Sports Interactive now produce 'Football Manager' but using a massively improved version of the old CM engine.

Where as the once great name of Championship Manager is now mud when compared to FM.

S.E.A.R - Second Encounter Assult Recon... Sort of makes sense actually!

T.W.E.A.R - Teeny Weeny Encounter Assult Recon :D

It's the game that's important, not the name anyway!

True, however the name holds the reputation.

If someone walked into a shop and saw FEAR 2 they would immediatly know it was a sequal and given the great response to the original, probably buy it.
If the same person saw a game called <insert name here> then the association with FEAR is lost and more than likely wont be bought.

Basically it needs some good marketing and make use of word-of-mouth to let everyone know that <insert name here> is a sequal to FEAR. :)

I'd simply call it P.H.E.A.R. - Presumably Horrifying Encounter Assault Recon.
Would keep association easy and it's true. ;)
