Just picked up my macbookpro up, I orginally ordered a 1.67ghz mbp, which got upgraded to the 1.83ghz model, but when I went into my local mac reseller to upgrade the ram on my girlfriends mini. They told me they had finally recieved some MBP's and mainly the 2.0ghz ones. After about 10seconds I changed my order to the 2ghz version :D

It decided to absolutly chuck it down as I left the store and I was very happy I decided to carry it in the external box as I got soaked by the cars waiting to cross the road!

    Anyway onto the pictures

First impressions are good, it's much easier to see everything than on my old 12in powerbook and its very quick to boot up. I still need to sling in my extra stick of ram but I will do that later.

If you want more pictures I have a whole heap more in my gallery:

    ****

    :D

Still can't run any Adobe apps that well :p

Nah seriously, enjoy it dude. I'm sure I'm not the only extremely envious one!

BTW, is the "left speaker sounds better than the right speaker" rumour true?

    Too much! :D

Pah I don't run any adobe apps anyway :D

Not sure about the speakers, I've not transferred any music across yet. The left speaker gets damn hot tho :D

I'm just calibrating the battery now, I've upgraded to 2gb of ram which was very simple, though the screws are sooooo small!

You could be waiting for some time on the price drops atomic.

You could go the cheap g4 mini route in the meantime. I picked up a refurb mini for my gf for £255 last week. If you get that to tide you over it will not lose much in value for a year or so's use. Then you could maybe pick up a cheaper intel one then?

    Hi Gordy,

    Congrats on the new purchase!

But how do you pay for all this?
Do you still have the 12" Powerbook?
Why do you have a Mac Mini? The powerbook is about the same speed and the macbook is alot faster.. (just read its for your gf..nm)

Could you like, write a review in a few weeks about the macbook? Is it still as stable as the G4's?

    Again congrats!

This laptop is for work I run my own company and need a computer on the move.

The 12in powerbook is now my parents as they needed something small and portable to take to new zealand on holiday.

Its stable I've only had three crashes all doing the same thing over 30mins. I was trying to delete 100 plus files called thumbs.db (windows files) when I dragged them to the trash the computer came up with a msg saying it needed to be restarted.

When I deleted them in small batches it was ok so I don't know what happened.

You see, if that happened on an XP machine the user would throw a fit and start poking voodoo dolls of William Gates. But, as an Apple user, you put up with it??

I am really considering getting a MBP at the end of the month (or trying to at least).

Let us know how the battery lasts.

I think it was just one of the files was corrupt , tbh I wouldnt have been able to do what I was doing on windows. Spotlight'd the files into a big list and delete them in less than 5secs, try doing that in windows :D

I also wouldn't have the files on a mac unless I had an xp machine :D

Battery life is good, it say 3hrs 50mins on better energy saving settings.

But you get what I mean though. If something, anything, doesnt work in XP for whatever reason people are spitting fire towards MS, yet, if some Mac user has a problem with their Mac they clamly just put up with it and try to work around it. And you say, "try doing .. this that or anything in XP", yet, XP does things that Apple doesnt and noone brags about it. Why?
This aint a dig Gordy, it's just an obsevation between user types, that Apple fans seem to love Steve even if he commited mass genocide, yet, if Billy sneezes at the wrong time people throw a fit in disgust!?
