homemade water cooling for everyone ;) - january, 2006.

I haven't posted on B/T for over a year although I did pop in every so often.
Just had to say that your mod cought me and now I'm checking in every few hours so I don't miss an update!

You've got me thinking about starting something simillar water block wise and just wanted to ask if you would mind if I pick your brain every so often?

You guys(and gals) are so talented it hurts

 

Power suppy is assembled ...









I didn't make a block for southbrigde, but as it can get pretty warm and I decide to use original passive cooler from northbridge.
But it's too big, so little hacksaw action ...



and there is no obvious way to mount it, I will glue it. Hardly seen, but there is small drops of glue one every corner and in middle is thermal compund ...



Applying some pressure and after some time it's good to go



While playing with glue I've put some insulation under those resistors, and under mountings for cpu block ...



Here is cooler on southbridge, and block on northbridge ... slowly putting all blocks on motherboard ...



And all blocks on the board. And damn, motherboard is super heavy now !

one quick ques tho, not sure if it's been asked already, but do you think that one rad will be powerful enough to cool alllllll that gear?

just curious

 

this rad could probably work without fans ... but when i finally run it, then i'll know for sure ...

Those poor ram sockets, so much weight.

I like what your doing here, keep at it and it looks close to being finished.

 

you might need to fasion some plastic supports (like the ones that take heat away in zalmans silent case) to support the motherboard

with that much weight on it, you could snap it

(dont forget you have to add the weight of the water aswell)

Yes, every single block is pretty heavy, and motherboard itself has a "few", but it doesn't seem like a problem as motherboard is attached with 6 or 7 screws and it very stable. Force is much bigger on graphic card because it's "hangin" in air but unless i drop whole case from roof it should be all ok

I would like to see some cable ties on the PSU tubes just in case the heat forces them off

Other than that, great work.

 

Try to make some kind of stabilizer for your gfx card. Just a simple thingy though... nothing special. It might look nice and definitely will help.

I'we been on trip (not drugs ) for some time and wasn't able to make update. But here is little one ... pump can't fit at planed location, reservoir leaks, and tubes will have to be rearanged (it sounds like total disaster but it's not that bad ) ... I'll post some pictures later today or tomorow

After motherboard is all assembled, next is graphic card. You've already seen it but it's nice ... and still damn heavy



... but when trying to put in on motherboard, a problem occured. It's wasn't enough room for plexi ram holders od graphic card because blocks on system ram. So i've cut plexi a little, and it's ok now



And then major problem !
pump cant' fit where it suppose to ... actually it could, but i can't connect tubes on



After some time thinking what to do, and how to mount it. I've realised there is no way it could fit down there, so only logical place was under DVD and HDD, and with use of some old CD-ROM housing it's perfectly fixed in place ... later i've cut that plate at apropriate lenght and polish it a little ...



This is not image you see often ... putting thermal grease on hdd ...



All tubes connected ... looks like mess



But when things start to go wrong it just can't stop ... and reservoir leaks
So i've disassembled it and I'll try some alternative methods to make it work and to be reliable.
And I'll have to rearrange a tubing a little to make some space as this is way too big crowd at top, and nothing at bottom ...
Hope to fix all this setbacks and have it all running
