Sounds like a cross between Netmeeting and Windows Messenger. Could prove to be a very useful feature of Vista, though I wonder if the RIAA will have anything to say about it?

    RIAA vs M$

Is the enemy of my enemy my friend?... YEP! GO MS! However, on a more serious note i think they will probably implement some sort of technology to stop you from sharing copyrighted material.

I saw a demo of this at CTS this year (at least I assume it was this), and it actually doesn't look too bad. You can start a meeting or whatever, invite people and put whack up files to share. I assume it's 90% meant for people in offices, in which case it actually looks relatively useful.

I predict that it will be enabled by default in the first releases, exploited by hackers, and then disabled and forgotten about. Didn't a similar thing happen with the remote desktop connection and Windows XP?

I agree completely that remote desktop is useful and so is windows messanger. But neither of those is enabled by default any longer due to worms in the first case and spam messages in the second.

Isn't this fairly old news, that was announced when MS bought FolderShare? P2P sharing, syncing of files, etc.

Microsoft seem to have pushed the file-sharing boat out a fair bit- firstly buying out Foldershare and integrating it (rather well) into Live Messenger, then adding the Music Mix so we can legally share our music over IM, and now this :).

    Ed's got a point - aren't the MPAA/RIAA trying to shut down filesharing? ;)

And one of the biggest companies in the world is integrating it into their next OS? :eyebrow:

Oooh... smell the lawsuits comin'... :hehe:
