So, besides the 2 illeagal rifles and the black powder, is it actualy against the law to own that much ammunition?
` Probably broke a zoning ordinance. I don't know. Weapons have to be registered, so if he didn't then those charges would be pending too. Either way, the guy is a little bonkers. ` ` `
Fair do's to the guy. He doesn't trust the world not to go tits up, and he wants to be prepared to do well if it ever does.
In therory, yes. In practice that kind of depends on the person's political persuasions, shall we say: If Mr. Ferro's antipathy was towards the US government rather than towards one that is its enemy, I doubt that he would have got off that lightly.
The ATF takes these things very seriously, It isn't illegal to own that much ammo, but if the weapons you have aren't legal it does raise a few eyebrows.
Idle curiosity, but what would that amount of ammunition cost? I mean, that decides if he's an idiot or an eccentric.
Not an American, but having spent enough hours on US forums I can tell you it varies totaly on what ammo it is. Some calibres of match grade rifle ammo are going to be a many many times more expensive than the cheap 9x19 multipacks you can buy at walmart. Not an insignificant quantity of money though.
Military calibers (5.56, 7.62x39, and 9x19mm) are usually pretty cheap and can be purchased in large quantaties. .22 LR is almost literally a dime a dozen. On the other hand , hunting calibers such as 7mm and .300WM can easily exceed $2.00 per round. If he was planning to go to war he most liukley would have had military caliber weapons. Also, this probably represents a lifetime's accumulation of ammo, not somthing he bought last week at Walmart.
Let me get this straight, you can buy ammo at walmart? Sorry to sound like an idiot, but I have a very hard time getting ammo for my air-riffle in the Netherlands. From what I understand of guns and America i've been trough more paperwork for my airriffle then any american has to go trought for a real firearm.
Yeah, you can buy ammo at Walmart, but you have to be 18 to do so. I can walk into Walmart today and walk out later with any gun I choose. The perks of already being in their "3 day system." Although I think it's all computerized today anyways so it's almost instant.
Yeah, as far as I know there are no special requirements to sell ammunition, as opposed to say, tobacco or alcohol. Air rifles are almost totally unregulated, and, TBH, haven't been much of a problem. I think you're supposed to be 16 to purchase one, but nobdy really cares. Walmart sells guns, the sporting goods store in the mall has them, K-mart has them, really not a big deal over here. Just a different culture.
