The idea for this case comes forward out of discontent with my previous case. A normal ATX case which had only few options for better airflow. I was still in the modding mood after 'finishing' my Amplifier mod (It will be improved rather soon). So I started sketching an came up with a few designs. After some 3d models in Sketchup I had a winner! So I got started and had some wood sawwed at the hardware store. These parts wood would become my new case, which I baptized Red Rogue. I used a jigsaw to cut the various holes. I glued the hood of the case together, this was one of my more brilliant ideas . I wish to be able to get to my hardware at every possible moment. And the bended window made a door a bit difficult. And these shots are after the rough work was finished. Next up was making the bended window, something I haven't seen before and I am particular proud of in this mod. I was and am very happy with the result. I also made some plexi parts to stealth my optical drives. I used red acrylic for the different parts. Because I have some fans on exhaust in the top, and I wish to open the hood at every given moment I had to come up with a different method to attach the fans. After that my favourite work came up, painting...NOT. I didn't have enough space to get the job done easy, so I started rushing. Too bad that the result wasn't up to my standards so I re-painted it a small month ago. At first I put the case on wheels, I was quite happy with riding around my case through the living room while still working on it. I did have my thoughts about the added value of the wheels to the case. They were not my favourite parts. The case then participated in the Benelux Casemod League and came out fourth at the casecons. After this competition I disassembled the case to give it a new paintjob and some new feet. I also had the idea to place some aluminium profiles which I didn't put on in the first place. I haven't made any pictures of the extra work on the case re-painting it. It wasn't really interesting anyway . As you can see the case has lost its wheels and is now on short legs with acrylic feet with a red led in it. I also mounted the aluminium profiles which I brushed with sanding paper. Enough talk, see for yourself if you like the result! I also made some extra pictures in the dark. At evenings I have a red light district at home That's why I installed some switches (a few pics back) to turn of the lights when needed. I took the case in this state to the Dutch Casemod championships and it took the eight place. For now on the case is finished, I am happy with the result and have no new ideas. I do have enough ideas for my Amplifier mod, so I will put my energy in that case.
Thanks, and I like it I've inspired you , big advantage is that MDF is a cheap material. As I have a lot of other expenses this was something my wallet liked a lot. Thanks The next project will be working on a steel case, let's see how these skills are!

Well not so much a project log, but damn the case looks good The paint job is awesome, you can't tell at all that it's made from MDF, for all you know it could be 15mm thick white acrylic. How did you do the painting, with an ordinary rattlecan or did you have it professionally painted? Also the colors are really cool, white and red go amazingly well together. I have to keep this color combination in mind for my future mods. Darkened
Thanks for all the compliments, especially on the paint job because that job drove me crazy ! It is indeed not much of a project log (you can find the real log in my signature, it is in dutch), it was first in modding. A mod moved it though. 15mm white acrylic would have been very cool either, shame that I haven't thought about that! The painting has been done with a paintroller (is that English?), there are a few coats of primer, a few coats of white high-gloss paint and two coats of high-gloss transparant paint (a rather hard one meant for wooden floors). It did take lots of time though, but I am happy with the result. By the way Darkened, I take of my hat for your Orange Monster! That case is really one I admire (I even showed it to my girl today, she liked it too )
I saw this case in real life two times, with the wheels at the tBCL and with the feet at the Dutch championship. It's a clean looking machine. You're right about the wheels, it looks better now. Great job
Damn, I must say that you've done a heck of a job with a paintroller! I actually thought that you either had it professionally done or that you have access to a high-pressure paint gun system. I'd welcome you to paint my walls any day Well I think it's also the right choice of paint which helps you get that kind of finish. I don't know if it's a word in english, but I think the paint has to be "tixotropic" which means it'll smooth itself out after applying. Well next you could do a mod from 15mm acrylic, the only problem would be the price of the finished product and also weight Also, thanks for a great compliment on my mod, it's always great to hear that people like your work. Never thought about MDF. Seems like a great idea. Is it easy to work with? Did it soak up a lot of paint?
The term 'thixotropic' refers to a semi-solid substance that exhibits liquid-like properties when disturbed. Aramid fibers (similar to Kevlar) in pulp form and toothpaste are two such substances. I'm not sure how a paint would be thixotropic but then again, I have little to no experience with paint. Nice work on the case, Godric. I really like the clean red and white color scheme and the wraparound window.
Nice looking case, reminds me of the white stripes with your color scheme. I really like the red window, I don't think I've seen a window that bends around to multiple panels, you did it quite nicely!
