    Some ideas...

You don't mention the OpSys. If Windows maybe worth trying to run it in Safe Mode to see if it remains stable in that mode at least.

Have you installed all necessary 'proprietary' drivers ? eg missing out the latest Via 4in1drivers used to be surefire route to instability on some motherboards.

If you've overclocked does the motherboard have a fallback/safe/unoverclocked mode to try it at to narrow down ?

Are you sure the PSU is up to the task ?

Have you been monitoring the temperatures to look out for an overheat ?

Finally are you sure about all the components ? After 7 months of stability with a self-built system, I upgraded from a 6600GT AGP to a 7950GT PCI-E a couple of weeks ago, and had one week of stable use, and then the video card decided it wanted to artefact/freeze/reboot the PC. XFX suggested faulty card and RMA. Seems to have been running a bit hotter than expected too. Reverting to 6600GT AGP and all's well again. Awaiting second 7950GT.

Sorry I am Using windows Vista and i will check the hardware as the Graphics Card is the only not new bit of kit. and the PSU is a hiper 580w modular and i belive is up to teh task and the tems are usually between 35-40 degrees. and i havent overclocked the system at all yet. is there anyway to test to see if it is the graphics card?

What I did with my XFX 7950GT was register it on the XFX UK site and go through their support ticket system, describing the symptoms and what I'd done (ie remove drivers/drivercleaner/resinstall both 9x.xx and 1xx.xx versions) and after a few interchanges they said it sounded faulty and to return it - which I relayed to Scan the supplier and they promptly issued a RMA without 30 mins of opening on Monday and had a courier round to collect it on Wednesday.

I am in the fortunate position though of having the old video card to revert to and so am able to continue computing, and to know that I had 7 months of a working system UNTIL that new video card. Unfortunately your 'new build' makes it very hard to know where to point the finger.

I suggest you try (a) your 7800GT's maker's site/support (b) see if there's a general support forum specialising in that topic (eg I found Bjorn3D.com for XFX graphics cards where I also got help/advice/ideas).

also, try running tools like memtest to see maybe if you have faulty memory, or try running with just on stick at a time
