I’ve been checking out ASUS Xonar D2X recently, kinda fantasized by it’s MIDI I/O and input S/N ratio for recording (I’m sort of a songwriter). But I’m a little concerned about Xonar’s gaming ability, should I just go for a X-Fi and all it’s EAX5.0 stuff? How does that compared to Xonar’s DS3D GX? I’m new to 3D games but I’d really like to enjoy them.

BTW, I’m using both Vista and XP (dual OS)

xonar without a doubt, creative have real crap driver support and is plagued with incompatibility with lots of other hardware as goodbytes will undoubtedly list for you

I would go for the Asus Xonar, just bought one of these, so will be interesting to see how it compares to the X-Fi XtremeMusic that I have....

xonar. creative crippled their drivers on purpose so stuff you should have, you dont. id never buy from them again for that.

I just got the ASUS Xonar DX. Haven't installed it yet, but I'm through with Creative Labs.

I'd say Xonar. Creative's monopoly is up, especially with their driver issues (which were sorted out by one user, but they told him to remove it). I've bought Creative since the SB Pro days, but never again, they've been going downhill for quite a while.

Funny thing about the drivers, the ones on their website (or at least up until recently, haven't looked for a while) are just upgrades, so you need the original install disc to put them on (which they will happily sell to you if you've lost yours).

DanielK's drivers are still up, just minus all the extra features he initially managed to enable on their cards.

I'd grab the Xonar unless you can pick up a dirt cheap second hand x-fi and use the Danielk drivers.
