naah, we just have the shiniest toys and all of the gurls and you cant deny that most workflows are sooo muuuch smoother in macosx
Yep I couldn't justify overpaying for a dell so I got a cheaper smaller macbook with a longer battery life What does Media Access Control have to do with this? I don't believe Apple owns the rights to the term PC nor Microsoft nor the FSF\Torvolds So pray tell which part of Personal Computer don't they fit?e
A Comparable dell when i got my macbook was the better part of 1000 aud more for a slower chip, less ram, smaller battery and much worse build (though it was 100ish grams lighter and a few mm thinner) and that was compared to the "overpriced" blackbook i got (yes the change in colour was not needed and i could of saved an extra 300ish by getting the cheaper white one but **** that one is ugly) granted i could of got the same specs for less if i had added 1kg to the weight and 50+mm to each of the dimensions that really matter (width and depth(not thickness))
But comparing AU prices to other AU prices is fair especially when you looked at the dell being very close to the converted price at the time and the apple significantly higher.
I'm talking about actually building, as in from scratch, a computer. If I want more RAM in on of my desktops, I go on Newegg. Let's say on a Mac, you want 8 gigs of ram. Within the photo industry, this is not at all uncommon. Apple will gladly charge you $1500 for the upgrade. Newegg will charge me $180. Perhaps the $1320 is a service charge? Let's also say I want to have some storage. Say 3 TB of storage. For good measure. Apple will charge you $1,050 for the upgrade. I'd rather pay $720 and get a better product. Also, while you're going to be suckered into paying $100 for a dual layer (cue the "oohs" and "ahhs"), when you can pay $30 for essentially the same thing. Who here has actually needed to burn a dual layer disc? Anybody? Hell, I'll take two and save myself $140. And to display it all? Instead of paying $1799 for a Cinema display, I'd rather pay $570 less and get an identical display (Apple buys theirs from Samsung as well). Now, I'll concede that my computer won't have any wicked awesome cooling, but then again, I suppose I can use the over two grand I saved and buy a nice water cooling system. Or save it for a rainy day. It may not have a shiny metal case with an Apple logo on it, either. What I will have, however, is software that actually runs in 64-bit.
Aaaaand it's a chase between Mac users and fanboys at large! Exactly the outcome I'd hope for. I voted fanboys generally. An observation: 'fangirls' have not been mentioned, and nobody has corrected this. Is this a widespread acknowledgement that only males have what it takes (i.e. an excess of testosterone) to make an insufferable fan?
Ok, ok, I was being hopeful. I despise console fanboys and I'm surprised mac users have drawn most of the flak. I mean granted, they tend to be smug, pretentious myspace using photography/music/drama students who choose their friends entirely through fashion choices and try to express themselves through their fringes, and they tend to love really terrible music, and they tend to play said music on their phone loudspeakers on buses, and they make a statement out of hating microsoft for no adequately explained reason, and they make bogus claims about mac's reliability, and they... You know what? I retract my original position. Mac fanboys are the devil's spawn.
Mac fanboys are by far the worst, although I voted for bit-tech fanboys. I love myself some Apple designs and personally have an iPhone but I will not sacrifice being able to play the latest games just to get a lovely looking iMac. I have yet to lose the will to compete in games like TF2 so I don't think any Mac can compare to a PC for that reason
Fanboi's... bah... If you play any kind of hardware accelerated game, your a fanboi. Im one for petes sake! (I voted for PS3 btw, hehehe) Also.. I am a fanboi of Einstein, he rocked so hard people thought he was a retard!
Shouldn't FireFox fans go up on the list. They always seem to spam anything with a browser reference about it's virtues and how it never crashes, stops all viruses and possibly that nasty rash you're been hiding while using IE implies you're a a banjo-playing halfwit.
sigh, one of my pet gripes is people who have this pedantic nit-picky way of going over the gender subtlties of the word "man". As far as i'm concerned, it's the huMAN race, and the male just o happens to also be called "man". Human females also come under the word "man", so really fan boy really equates to "fan-human". can i slap you now because i think you're a liberalist without a cause?
I think it comes down to open source vs. closed source, really. There are a lot of Linux evangelists amongst us, just like there are a lot of Firefox evangelists. In my opinion, the development cycles of any well-funded open-source project is much faster and it seems to me that there's more of a legitimate, almost cult-like community. And why wouldn't you like open-source? All the cool kids are doing it.
Um...wasn't that a bit OTT? I was just making an observation. (Also, I'm not a liberalist. Only americans care that deeply about politics: here, the word 'republican' is meaningless. I don't subscribe to polarised politics, I think it's a fallacy.) But sure, if you've got some excess aggression to misdirect, you can go ahead and slap me now.
