Yeah. Pretty hardcore huh? Held on by one of those twisty ties you find that hold Barbies to their packaging, the airflow is directed between the RAM sticks by a piece of cardboard (the ones that come off new plugs, that show what's inside the plug). Some pictures don't have a twisty tag because the fan was actually held on by.. oh yeah, nothing. I was impressed with my handiwork. What do ya think?!
I have no idea of the exact temps, but they're warm to the touch. They are OC'd by the standard Gigabyte BIOS - 'Performance Enhance - Turbo' which AFAIK puts them 100-200 MHz up. Timings are auto. I'm scared by the intricacies of it, so I don't touch it
Too true I have (inc GFX + PSU fan) 8 fans in my case, varying from ~20mm to 140mm. I tested it for quietness before I shut the case up (I stuck my ear to it) and it's silent, so it can't hurt It surprised me, as the fan is ~3 years old..
Love those tiny fans, they're so cute. You're lucky it's silent though, they're usually shrill and annoying. I'm not sure how essential RAM cooling is, but better safe than sorry I guess. Personally those XMS2 fins and the CPU's heatsink are enough for me
I use a similar thing, but its attached to my mobo via one of the mount screws and spot cools my ram. It is rather loud, but I dont really care about sound that much.
Ahh the old stick loads of fans in and it will cool anything down a thoery that SHOULD work! I rember sticking about 5 fans on my old 1.6ghz machine thinking it would cool it down. Stupid me put them all facing the CPU! It will cool your RAM. I am assuming its taking the air away from the RAM? If not it won't be doing much. TBH your'll be better off getting a 120mm running it at a low speed it'll take more heat away, just have to remember were the heat will go! Regards GiGo
Take the cardboard off, the idea is to have turbulent flow, not smooth so the transfer of energy is more efficient for the power you are sacraficing for using the fan. I am surprised greenpeace hasnt sent you a letter saying your wasteful deciscion is raising sea temperatures.
