    As the thread title says

    I want a new mobile.

It must have wifi -g I also want to be able to use a vnc client like real vnc or free vnc

I'm used to windows smart phones, but will look at anything (not iphone, overpriced)

I also want good internet browsing.

    any opinion would e great.

any one run VNC over a mobile?

I've asked in this forum to get a wider audience and therefore a wider base of opinion.

    THanks

WinMo 6.5 is arriving on the 6th along with a boatload of new phones. HTC Touch2, Touch Diamond2 and Leo/HD2, Acer F1, Sony Ericsson Xperia X2, LG GM750 and at least one Samsung...there's plenty to look at.

    No iPhone?

Tar me with the fan boy brush and dip me in Apple feathers if you must, the iPhone does all of that.

Free VNC apps as well. Internet browsing is second to none.

Price putting you off? get a second hand 3G one and jailbreak it.

plus one on the HTC Leo/HD2

pick up one of those on the O2 contracts, i do believe they have exclusivity, but dont quote me on that

and with 'win mo 6.5 arriving on the 6th', if your not afraid to flash it, you couldve had win mo 6.5 about 4/5 months ago! i'm currently running a build of winmo 6.5 thats about a week old on my Touch Pro

I dont have a problem with the iphone, it's just overpriced IMO.

I dont need lots of text talk or time, a few hunderd mins and text is fine.

I can get an android that dose it for £20pm the cheapest iphone is £35pm.

I want to use it in work to be able to log onto the server from any wi-fi point and run an app (netop)

I'd want to do this via VNC ('cos I know how to use it)

Looks like android would do it fine, but wanted other options.

The HD2(leo) looks sweet, depends on price, prolly be put in the same price as the iphone, so not really worth it IMO.

Any other good phones that have a better the qvga?

I'm putting another vote in for iPhone tbh... I'm still rocking one of the older 3G versions, and it just works.... i really can't give it any more praise than that...

I've found a deal, appears to be legit, company has had +ve feed back on AV forums and 3G.UK

    T-mobile G2 comes in at
200 mins, 200 texts, unlimited net.
    @ £24.50pm and £35 purchase and delivery.
    18 months
total £476 for length of contract (£580 for same deal with tmob direct)

    o2 direct gives

the Iphone 3g comes in at
600 mins 500 texts, unlimited net
    @ £35pm free delivery
    24 months
total £840 for length of contract
    (or £640, 18mnth, £30pm, 75mins+125txts, +£100 buy and delivery)

I'll not use more than 200 mins or 200 texts, so tarrifs are not important above 200.

I'm not counting out the Iphone.
but is it really worth twice the price?

the 1st comparison I found gives more or less a dead heat.

Any comments would be appreciated, Thanks for your help.

you should be able to get a touch hd if you're not too fussed about minutes etc...

the going rate for the touch hd's is about 200/210 over on AVforums, pop in an o2 simplicity sim and away you go!

Wait a bit - there may be a bit of competition on the iPhone front... Orange have just got the nod to sell them, ending O2's exclusivity. Orange may have different pricing, and it may spark a pricing war on the contract side...

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8278073.stm

Again, if you don't want a contract, you could just buy a second hand iPhone, jail-break it and put any sim you want in it. Some carriers do pay as you go with data boltons.

Cool time to be looking for a phone I guess :)

Leo in a few months and Iphone price war (Orange will have to be cheaper to get market share)

    Thanks for the info.

May wait a few months and get it after chrimmy.

You guys are great, may have just saved me a bunch of cash :)

Yup the iPhone going to Orange as well is probably one of reasons O2 are carrying the Leo, even though it's a fairly major competitor. Leo is looking likely (try saying that 3 times) to be available from Oct 12th.

I'd actually go for an older HTC, the Tytn II. It's proven tech, loads of custom OS done for it at this point, can do everything you asked it for, and has a fully keyboard.

    What's not to love?

VNC would be horrible on that 320x240 screen!

Newest batch of HTCs have 800x480 screens and are built on that same proven tech!

Plus theres always custom stuff for pretty much every HTC model at xda-developers :)

    How come no-one suggested blackberries?

I'm using a curve 8900, which has wifi and ssh/vnc/rdp apps.

The keyboard is a boon, and the battery life is excellent.

VPN is supported as well, using a huge list of VPN concentrators.

    XDA-devs rocks.

Overclocked and modded my phone :)

I like the tytn, but they always seem expensive, now they seem old.

I'd prefer one of the new phones with bigger screen for VNC.

    I'll wait.

Thanks for all the ideas and feedback guys.

I use a TyTn II on 3, I might trade it soon for a Touch 2, either way they both do what you want
