(PS, post a link/pic of the best looking case - and for the purposes of this topic, don't include mods) My idea of a good looking case is something that's dirty and industrial, huge, hulking and makes it's presence known on your desktop! I've already made my thought's known - I love this case! http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cases/2010/04/20/first-look-antec-dark-fleet-pc-case/2
I've been using a Xaser III for years. Probably the only thing ever to come out of Thermaltake that was ever any good. Black with clean lines and built like a tank. It fits nicely in the room without looking out of place and is supah quiet. If I had to change it, I'd probably look at a Cosmos S. Cases should look good without being a distraction IMO. Pictured, my current case with the system running.
I prefer simple monolithic cases, such as Lian-Li's and the new Corsair 800... That said, the last two cases that I bought was the Antec 1200 and the GMC Toast in Orange?! But they were for a specific role. My favourite is the Lian-Li PC-350 for the HTPC. Cheers, SouperAndy
My favourite case of all time is still the Chieftec Dragon (original model, not the modern crap) Only problem is cooling and internal component management is a little difficult. Fitting a long graphics card requires pulling out a HDD rack, However it's steel which means no rattling and excellent noise absorption
I just want a soilid block of aluminium machined to fit everything inside, Kind of like a giant unibody macpro. No picture because i cant find anything that comes close! Possibly because price would be a massive issue (how much is a case sized block of aluminium anyways?)
I'm firmly in the minimalist school of thought - so things like the Fractal R2 Define, most of Silverstone's and Lian Li's options, and to a certain extent things like the Coolermaster CMII 690. Things like that Antec, and even your Thermaltake, Silver51, are too busy for my tastes! But hey, it's all opinion, right? World would be boring without the variety!
I quite like the new Silverstone Fortress FT02, especially since Scan have an exclusive version at the moment. Isn't the red interior pretty? I'd prefer it with only one optical bay showing in the front though.
I am another disciple of the industrial case design school of thought. The Dark Fleet is very pretty, and my own PC resides in a HAF 922 at the moment. Not a giant fan of large cases (pun intended) though industrial styled ones often seem to be. There's just something about a case that looks like it could (and hopefully really could) take a beating and remain functional, something that makes heavy "clunk" noises when you work with it, and something which provides factory-like functionality over looks. Wooden cases are also incredibly beautiful, though that's a custom thing and I'm not sure if it completely applies to this discussion. Once I work up the courage/skills to do my own mod it will hopefully be a wooden scratch build, with industrial functionality in mind of course.
Silverstone Fortress FT01(black). Without window. After having some 30 cases around, that's the one I'm now using, so I guess it not only looks the best but also works. Reminder on the looks: http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_photo.php?pno=FT01&area=usa
Thermaltakes one success looks like a cheiftech? Over the last year my taste has changed totally to the extent I now can't look atm my CM 690 twice, thinking about getting an R2 or something similarly smooth
I prefer simple and slightly plain looks. I hate massive flashy showy cases with loads of windows etc.
A mix between industrial and modern sleek minimalist thingymajig. O wait I got one of these but not in red
Sleek, and fairly minimal. Love my Cosmos, just not a fan of the silver anymore, soon to be Arctic White My first case was a ThermalFail Armour Jr. It had a blue LED fan, it had a window, and some totally useless fins infront of the drive bays... at the time I loved it, it was even more sexy that sex. Then I changed what I wanted. Not I want a Lian-Li
