I'm currently moving house and today it was my pcs turn to make the trip. Now its there it's refusing to turn on. Spec: ASUS M2N32SLI deluxe mobo Athlon X2 5200 4GB ram gtx260 gfx hiper type R 580W modular PSU creative fatality soundcard (the one with the front panel) A belkin 4 port usb/firewire card The motherboard has power (green led on), a usb hub plugged into the mb gets power, ethernet lights flash on when a cable is plugged in, but nothing happens when the power switch is pressed. Its not a dodgy power button, I've tried shorting the power button connection on the mb. Also tried all the usual, removed soundcard, usb etc, only 1 stick of ram. still nothing. the fans don't even try to spin up. I'm hunting for another PSU to try, and if I have too I'll borrow the cpu from my media pc, but I'm hoping I won't have to resort to that. Is there anything worth trying that I've missed?
getting close to the kicking it stage I was going to try jumps tarting it, but couldn't find a convenient paperclip/bit of wire around. So thats still on the list. forgot to mention I took the cmos battery out for about 5 minutes too, damn thing's hidden under the graphics card.
Have you tried reconnecting all the power leads? The lights may come on, but it may not be getting enough power to turn on. I've had problems where a PC wouldn't turn on, stripped it all out then put everything back and it worked. May want to give that a try. If not, may I suggest this:
Could be a short somewhere - something similar happened to me, turned out to be a very warped motherboard shorting on a standoff...
Same thing happened to me, but windows would start loading then just turn off. Wouldn't boot in safe mode ether. I just gave up and reinstalled windows and all my games... thank god for backups too.
reseat everything, GPU card, CPU, check all power connections, even if you dont think you need to or have already tried reseat EVERYTHING.
Tried clearing the CMOS, both with the jumper and removing the battery. I did notice a stand off missing from the lower right corner by the PCI slots, just assmed I'd forgot to put one there, but i suppose it could have fell out somehow. Everything's been reseated bar the CPU, as I didn't have any thermal paste with me.
It's alive! Came ready to swap CPUs and play today, but I didn't need to resort to that. Hit the power button incase it's fixed itself since Wednesday, it hadn't. Plugged in an old 300W psu and it started to boot. OK, time for a new PSU. Plugged the hiper back in to check, and it still booted. So I'm guessing it was a loose connection somewhere, no idea where as I'd had everything stripped down to the CPU, and the power connections were the 1st thing I checked.
