Have you tried running in Compatibility Mode? -Left click on game Icon -select "Properties" -click "Compatibility" tab -check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" -choose mode in drop down list -click "Apply" -run program
This. Use XP mode and it should be fine. If it still doesn't work check your error logs. I seem to recall there being some issue with Generals and DirectX 10
It does work on Vista; I've got the 10 years of C&C pack and all the games work. Get the latest patch from the EA website and it should sort you out.
I think there was some issue with the path to the user folder on Vista. Works fine on 7 though so i don't know... Maybe you should upgrade to 7 after all?
The only thing I can think of is to patch it... I have Vista and it works perfectly well, apart from the online mode, that's never worked.
when i had vista i did manage to get it going but it was not easy. If i remember correctly it's looking for a configuration file in a specific path that doesn't exist since documents and settings is gone. I think you need to create the structure so it can put the file there or something. also the affinity could be messing with it as well. Try setting the affinity to 1 core or if possible use a tool like imagecfg to change the affinity mask on the executable.
Not sure its worth the hassle, although I would install it to hear just one soundbytes again: 'AK47s FOR EVERYONE!'
The only thing I can think of is that you may need to run the game in Administrator mode. Not sure that's any help but it helped me to get Medieval 2: Total War working on Win 7 64bit so thought I'd mention it. Other than that, could be you have to check 'under the hood', as other posters have said. May be a user folder issue as someone else mentioned.
I had a similar problem. You need to create the folder tree and prefs.ini I think, but I can't remember what the folder tree is sorry. Don't give up
i did some searching and did find some promising information on another forum but i am not sure if posting to other forums is allowed so search for something to do with options.ini
Windows vista it work with command & conquer generals.... The command & conquer generals zero hour didn't work with windows vista at all.
