Hardware SilverStone Sugo SG07 mini-ITX Case Review

Thinking of making the most use of that big ol' Air Penetrator (giggle), I'm thinking a Noctua NH-C12P on the CPU and Thermalright Spitfire and VRM-R5 on a Radeon 5870. Should place all the heatsinks directly under it. I'll have to get some detailed measurements to see if it will all fit, I reckon so from my guesstimations.

 

this case is overpriced anyway and there is so little material surely alu would not of increased the cost that much? as for for strengh i had a cm praetorian (alu) that was used as a makeshift seat most weekends for a good few years and that thing never bowed or anything.. the new owner also sits his crt on it.. the wavemaster i owned had a steel side panel which got dented chipped and rusted. i hate rust.. sg07still a sick case though

It's not that overpriced if you consider its a case, 600W PSU, specialised 180mm fan etc.

Thin 1mm alu sheet is relatively cheap but thicker stuff costs significantly more. Your praetorian is what, 5 years old? Alu prices have increased a lot since then - take a look at the cost of Lian Li cases over the last 10 years!

Its a 'MAYBE' buy if it came without a PSU but having to buy the case and PSU as one bundle is a deal breaker for me

 

It only sells with the PSU for the reasons we've listed in the article. It's designed especially to fit. A lot of mini-ITX cases are coming pre-fitted with PSUs these days.

 

You can do a tidy build in this case, it gets damn hot.

For now it's a niche product, providing a PSU that could handle a 5970 would be nice considering it can fit one. If they sorted that I could see it as a replacement case for Mini P180 on small but powerful builds.

 

It *can* handle a 5970. It has all the connectors for it and 600W is ample, I just didn't have one to hand to test.

 

I'm really not convinced that the PSU can handle a 5970 and an overclocked 45nm quad. But willing to try.

Overclocked quad? Your motherboard will die before the PSU does. It's 600W! But mini-ITX boards are only meant to handle 73-95W with 3 phase power, so you're overcranking that already Not to mention the fact the tiny little CPU cooler in there probably cant take it either

I put an i7 860 on it but it wont OC at all so it's back to the old overclocked dual core vs stock speed quad debate.

What BIOS were you guys using?

A PA 160 with the duct off or BlackIce GTS140 is a tempting proposition.

 

Latest version at the time of review - F4 I think it was.

The mini-ITX boards aren't designed for i7s, and barely even i5s, unless you use a DFI P55 and its in-built profiles Even if you've got a H50 on it the power hardware often can't handle it.

You're not using the GPU duct on the 5970 too It needs it.

 

Duct is neither here nor there.

P55 is generally better than H55 but as they've matured they have become better at handling Lynnfields. Gigabyte's own H55M-SH2 is a case in point. I figured they'd have ironed out the teething problems on the H55 by now. But yeah, it either gets to hot or locks up under decent overclocks with 860 and 750.

Oh for and 8-Pin EPS...
