Based off the comments so far, I'd adapt my build to plump down for bagpuss's build but change a few components: PSU - OCZ StealthXStream 500W Silent SLI/Crossfire Ready ATX2.2 Power Supply from aria Case - CM 335 Guess Z1-Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-E in the Bargain Basement of Aria (£114.02) would be the best GPU to use for this setup so far. The noise issues of the HD 4890 are too worrying and the only 'quiet' version of that card, the Sapphire, costs about £20 more than this 5770. So, to run through the setup again: CASE: coolermaster elite 335 £29.95 PSU: OCZ StealthXStream 500W Silent SLI/Crossfire Ready ATX2.2 £44 HDD: 500GB Samsung F3 £33.45 MOBO: MSI 770-C45 £52.64 GPU: 1GB HD5770 £114.02 MON: Viewsonic 20" VA2013BW 1600x900 £94.34 CPU: AMD Athlon 255 £54.78 RAM: 4GB DDR 1333 Corsair £72.97 Total = 496.15 (Sweet! A sub-£500 system)
Not to bash or anything... But sometimes i find dificult explain to myself how a "noise issue" its reason to not buy anything, specialy when its way better. I would definely go for the 4890, this ofc taking into account that the games you wanna play are not DX11, so you could have more advantage fron the 4890, its much better than the HD 5770 and it cost the same. Ofc there' the issue with the power supply, you would need a bigger one (at leat 650Watts) wich probaly would be a problem for your budget...
Yay that was me (new to the forum). Another +1 for the 4890, a 4870 is better than a 5770 and the 4890 is better than a 4870, yet the 4890 is cheaper than the 5770, its an easy choice really.
Well Paisa just hit something straight there, go for the 4890 and I don't think 400W is enough, and I can assure you that when you have the PC set up infront of you the 'noise issue' will explain itself... Tbh, the 5770 is more futureproof and quieter and overclocks better making it my choice
500w would be enough to run one 4890 without any problems. Plus, the money saved on the GPU would go to buying a 500w PSU.
The modular version is about £10 more but would help to tidy the case interior which would in turn improve cooling. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001GLFD...de=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B001GLFD4U
Don't go with an OCZ PSU, it's not the worst in it's class but is far from the best of its price, for that money a Silverstone Strider will do fine
Aria are only giving a 30 day warranty with that sapphire 5770 so I would personally stay clear of it. It is probably a return someone else had trouble with or something like that as I think it also mentions the box is bust or not the original packaging. I was seriously looking at it till I read the small print.
Hmm... still wonder whether it's worth the risk - depending of course on the common reasons for returns to Aria.co.uk. If it's commonly for faulty products, I might skip this choice.
whats price difference between a 1GB 5770 and 1GB 4890 then ? can see if its worth it oh andyes you'll want the 1GB 5770 not the 512MB as this is muhc slower when your gaming at higher resolutions
This was posted earlier, 4890 for £109.99. http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials...R5+PCI-Express+Graphics+Card+?productId=37323
