These machines are better than just being HTPCs. Many of us have brought them for that purpose after seeing them on the forums but decided on using them as our main systems. Infact I think Ouija was one of those chieftech types but I think hes been converted to the shuttles, and unlike the rest of you, when he dies he'll go to heaven cause hes owned one . If Jesus owned a PC it'd be a shuttle - lol - its here to save mankind - lol.
Yea, they're really cool. I can't decide between a Lian Li PC-50 or another Shuttle for my main LAN machine This has been a really fun project, even if my original design plan didn't work. I'm much happier with the results now though.
Thats the decision I was trying to make - turned out to be shuttles in the end though. Will probably update my SV24 for another shuttle for HTPC. Another SK41 is most likely.
After a bit of a disaster, the top is polished. I was polishing the side and the mop caught under the window's edge and pulled the cover up off the table and spun it round the drill scratching, denting, and tearing my nice filed edge to pieces. I filed it back again, there's still a large tear I have to polish out. I can't cut it because the intake fan will show through the window so we'll have to see how it goes. Here's some pics of the mirror finish.
It is shiny - you'be put alot of work into it. What would complete it? You know that plastic bezel on the front behind the clear front? Spray paint that chrome, you can get the stuff from model shops for no more than £20 including paint and airbrush. What you think?
You read my mind. I was looking at it earlier and realised how dull it looks. I was going to get some foil for behind the perspex but that might be a little too much. It will be black, and I might go for the chrome effect on the plastic bezel. It's a lot of hard work and I've been at it all weekend. It's not finished yet and next weekend is going to be a little bit harder. disaster/heart-attack/panic I won't tell you how long I fumbled around trying to turn the drill off
I hunted high and low for a single sheet of black paper, and eventually decided to waste some toner and printed out an entire sheet of A4 in black (at work of course). DIY black paper The final cut-out The new black front including CD-ROM and floppy bays
Not bad although photo paper would of given the finish to the paper your looking for. Still nice overall effect - it looks complete now.
If I happen to come across some nice glossy card I will make up another front and use that instead. I've kind of grown accustom to the white glittery front now... it looks so different without it. Looking at pics of the brushed finish too, it just looks kinda retro. Like a 50's toaster or something
Time for a quick update. I've been preparing for the finished cover, that is moving the fan back by about 2cm. I used a cut off of aluminium (still brushed... aah I miss the brushed finish ) and made a bracket for it. The piece of aluminium marked out Cut to shape Filed down, drilled and fixed to the fan Mounted to the chassis. Looking good Up and running, perfectly in line for the hole I am about to cut
Looks good! My sister has the p4 shuttle, and it is very nice looking. I can't get my grimey little hands on it, though, or she'll cut them off
Today is a sad day Project:U-235 is complete!!! I finished up the polishing today, cut out the intake hole and put all the windows back. It's finished. 100% complete. Time for pics! The fixing of the window and grill. The window is held away from the cover a little because of the grill. I may sort this another day Nobody's home Until it's powered on
Sucky ... ... pics The case looks great, still I dislike some bits and pieces about the windows - yet everything else seems perfect to me and giving 9/10 to it!: )
You don't like the shape/size of the windows do you? Ah well, everyone is different. But seriously, that top window is the largest I could possibly make it. To be honest, that's my favourite window Notice the "Shuttle" logo coloured in black.
