Hey guys, i literally started F@H last week sometime.

Im currently participating using my normal home PC (Every little helps right?) and im wanting to know how to get the most out of my PC at night when i dont use it.

Ive heard about running 4 clients (one for each of my CPU cores, i run Phenom II X4 955 BTW) but cant seem to get it to work correctly.

Im also running the GPU client for my 5770 and wondered if there is anything i can do to get more out of this?? Oh and i added a PhysX Dedicated card (8800GS) the other day and im wondering if i can use this and how?

Remember im a complete noob and some of the tuts i have seen are a little bit complicated for me as they are written by experienced folders in a way that semi-experienced would understand but not a complete noob :wallbash:

    My folding.extremeoverclocking.com stats

Cheers in advanced guys :thumb: <3

Rather than trying to run 4 CPU clients you should consider the latest SMP client (6.3) available to download from the Stanford HP client page.

    http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther

It is a lot easier to set up in its latest incarnation and will use all the cores available to it. Even if you only run your computer over night it should make the deadlines no problem but if you are able to run 24/7 the bonus points will stack up even more.

I would try not to be too ambitious to start off with. Make sure you read all the documentation and WIKIs available on the FAH site and have a look at the forums. Get one client going well before you move onto the next.

Having done that, if you are still unable to get something to work, post the specific problem with a copy of the log file and I'm sure you will receive all the help you need. :D

    Good luck!

    Welcome to the team.
I'd say smp for the cpu & the gpu client on the 5770 (& 8800GS eventually).
I'd advise to set the SMP client up first then we can help you with the gpu clients (multi-gpu is fairly easy but as you're mixing ATi & Nvidia it could be a tad more tricky)

kk guys - as long as the SMP client is as easy or not much harder to setup i shouldnt have a problem, i got the single CPU client working pretty easily.

Ill post my progress :) Cheers so far.

EDIT: Is it the client at the bottom of the list (Windows: V6 Beta SMP2/CPU clients) the top ones are GPU clients. just wanna check im not making a noob mistake ;)

Ok worked it out - Installed, added to FAHMON, how do i know if its running correctly??

It doesnt seem to be doing anything in FahMon :/

[EDIT] Nevermind its just hit 1%, however its got a yellow flag instead of green, and it wont show the ETA :( any ideas?

It's probably not showing an ETA because it needs more than 1% of the WU to be finished before it can calculate the ETA. Give it a few more minutes - if necessary you can force FahMon to manually refresh using F6.

It needs to complete 3% to show anything, however FahMon will report a low ppd as it cannot show the bonus that you should be getting, you should use HFM.NET see this thread. http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=181726. Also have you registered for a passkey, without this you will not get any bonus. http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-passkey

FahMon bases it's calcs typcially on three frames, so tends to be yellow until you hit 4%.
Note: FahMon has not been updated in recent times, so you'd be better off running HFM (see HFM.net) which recognises the new cores, bonuses etc, and also has a FahMon look and feel.

woop, im an inpatient little **** ;)

Next Question. Low cost - No cost heat reduction lol im sweating. My PC has turned into a radiator :O

Im thinking about adding a couple more fans and lapping the CPU.

[EDIT]: just seen 2 new replies, Yea i got a passkey before i began folding ;) and ill look at HFM now :)

Well im glad im using the SMP client now - MY CPU PPD has jumped by about 4500 points lmao xD not a lot compared to some of you addicts, but it seems it to me ;)

Im gonna have to get a desk fan now!!

BTW when i start gaming, F@H only uses AVALIABLE resources to fold doesnt it?? so it technically shouldnt affect me??

KK next is improving my GPU if its possible (and getting my 8800GS working). How? It cant be that simple since its an ATi and a nVidia card in the same system. So is it the same principle as CPU, different client etc? or more complicated? :/

yea thats straight forward enough - but is there anything special i need to do since one GPU is ATi and the other is nVidia???

I'd say give it a go and see, it's a bit of unexplored territory as most of us folders just use nvidia cards as they produce more ppd

what arguments are you using for the gpu's, I'm guessing you'll need to use arguments to ensure you get the correct Ati & Nvidia optimised units to the correct card.

what u mean by arguments - like "-forcegpu"??

    if so i used

    -gpu 0 -forcegpu ati_r700 -local -verbosity 9

    and

    -gpu 1 -forcegpu nvidia_g80 -local -verbosity 9

I also change the machine number in the configs to 2 & 3 and duplicated/renamed all the folders etc
