Not sure if i should be surprised or not...... Put my new PC together last weekend and have left it a week to get my anti-virus installed, using just the bog standard Defender in windows... You will just have to believe me when i say i haven't been trawling dodgy free porn sites...Just been to a few tech forum sites and my email nothing remotely recreational bar downloading Steam and a couple of games within that. Bought BullGuard which i have used for a few years now and always got on with then did my first scan..... 4 fooking trojans and a couple of dodgy cookies....I mean wtf, is no-one safe.?... ^^
Reminds me of a xp laptop i reformmatted awhile back, while letting ms do it's updates after the install the bloody thing picked up a pile of crap. i blame ie6. god i hate ie6.
I still don't have a clue how they could have gotten there. I have only downloaded the basic mainstream programmes like java, adobe reader etc...I thought Trojans needed to be installed through an executable file launched on the target pc... : /
I think it's just false positives. That is all. Use Microsoft Security Essential (free) Windows Defender is a ultra bare bone A/V software.. mainly to eliminate popular mass attack viruses. It's better than nothing... it's there for those you have expired A/V installed on their computer. But real protection is a full A/V like AVG, Microsoft Security Essential, etc..
Have to agree, more likely to be FPs than actual trojans. I switched from MSE to Avira because it performs even better wrt false positives.
I never put go online on my PC following a rebuild until I've installed service packs, drivers and my anti virus software. Then the first thing I do once online is update the virus definitions, then visit Windows Update. This has always worked for me.
