How can I find out my CPU temperature? I know I can go into the BIOS but I have my computer running some backtests for my trading which are likely to last a few days and I want to make sure my CPU is not running too hot. Cheers, Sam. P.S. I have the MSI P67aGD53 Board and Intel Core i5 2500k CPU
Ok thanks guys, I had already tried Everest but couldn't get it to work. I got these readings with CoreTemp.... Is it ok considering I am running some quite intensive back testing and have been for over 24 hrs..... This is my first build so new to all this..... Sam.
depends on ambient temps,...for example, my room where my pc is runs around 25-27 C...my cpu runs at about 35-38 under idle/slight load...44-46 under medium load, and 55-58 under max
Haha thanks Wicked_Sludge! Actually I did google it and downloaded Everest which didn't seem to work and SpeedFan which just downloaded some toolbar thing so I thought I'd ask here for some advice from those in the know. So I wasn't being completely lazy! Ok, so I'll try and find out the temperature in my room and test again at a later date when I can run my PC idle. Also, how do you get it at full load to test it? Sam.
what do you mean by back testing? If you mean you've been running cpu intensive tasks for the last 24 hrs + then I'd say those temps really aren't to bad, as others have said, what are your room temps like? and what case have you got your system in?
I have the Fractal R3 case which came with 2 case fans. The back testing is something I am doing for my forex trading. I am currently running optimizations which test thousands of variables so yeah, I'm guessing it's quite processor intensive.... Anyway, earlier I tested my CPU temp when I wasn't running anything and I got these figures: As you can see these temps are much lower. Are these acceptable? I'm not sure about my room temperature, I will have to find that out. Also because of the size of the case and the size of my desk, it has to be pretty close to the back and side wall which probably doesn't help.... Sam.
those temps arent bad given the less than idea placement of your case and particularly so if the room is on the warmer side. at any rate, none of your temps are particularly bad. sure, you could probably do better with better/more case fans, better case placement, better TIM, blah blah blah. but you are in no way risking or shortening the life of your CPU running at those temps. if it aint broke dont fix it.
