It's Ubisoft. I'm sure they'll put that piece of **** DRM on there where you have to be connected 24/7 to the internet. I'll pass.
I think they've more or less given up on that idea, it'll probably be activate online then possible to play offline.
They've confirmed From Dust won't have the Always On DRM http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/07/29/f...re-a-permanent-online-connection-say-ubisoft/
Gave in and bought it on the Xbox. Really really good game, the levels are very good and the game looks beautiful even on an xbox 360.
Has anyone tried this on the PC yet? I noticed it's available on steam today and would be interested to hear if there's much improvement over the console versions before I dive in and buy it.
I've got it on PC- I would say dont get it on an AMD system atm- crashes my PC (AMD 5850) on completely stock settings using the latest drivers. However a friend does not have this issue on their Nvidea. Mind you the 5-10 minutes I get before a blue screen (it does it a certain loading screen : |) is very fun And if anyones wondering the blue screen is a x...0124 error, and gpu temp is sub 50*c and cpu is sub 40*c
Hmm.. This has me wondering how my 5850's will fair with this game then. May have to try it on my older system before I build my new rig in the next 2 days. It had better work damnit, I was anticipating this one...
It would be great if you could give it a go too haha, its the first time I've had this problem in a game, and its about the easiest to run, 60FPS@ 30~% utilization. Makes you wonder how underpowered consoles really are
Tried it yesterday. Works great so far on a 6850. The Ubisoft DRM thing is pretty annoying. One must register an account for no obvious reason. Apparently there are some sort of storing of save games, but that does seem to hang every time I exit the game. In terms of gameplay I really like it. It's nice to see a game that is different from most other games. The only thing that annoys me is the controls. They seem... odd.
played it a bit yesterday, and have one main statement: Holy bleep, the physics system is amazing. also, fire spreads rather quickly.
Think I'll give this a miss. Ubi always-on DRM, fps cap at 30, no AA support, very shoddy console-esque controls... no ta.
Bought this last night not hearing the news, having heard it wouldn't require always-on. Thanks for the heads up about being able to return on Steam. The game's a lot of fun and sucked away a good few hours last night but on principle I don't want Ubisoft getting $15 for a game with their DRM.
Ubisoft really needs to sort their **** out, more and more people every day are boycotting their games because of dodgy ports or silly DRM; at this rate they'll be even more hated than Activision by Christmas.
Just to point out that alot of people have been posting that they are NOT getting refunds from Steam over the DRM issue and that article has no official valve source. Be warned! EDIT: See the Steam forums for From Dust for more on the lack of refunds
