Yes it's over the top and not necessary but I have an 80mm rad sitting here just begging to cool something and well I have the itch for a new project I've got some old north bridge blocks sitting here which should be a perfect size only thing I need is a small, quite pump for this little loop. Will more than likely leave the rad just passively cooled as even thu the modem throws out a fair bit of heat I don't see it heating the rad up too much. All will end up in a spare rack case I have lying around. Any suggestions for pumps?
That sounds like a really funny project! Have you checked out some of the REALLY small aquarium pumps? They'll most likely require a fair bit of modification, but I have one myself which only measures 3,5*4,5*4 cm and has an output of 200 L/h. Mind you I have no experience with water cooling myself, so I don't know if you can use such pumps in a WC setup You have to take som pictures of the build process and post them on bt!
I've had a look on ebay but sound levels/vibration are more than likely going to be the main factors for this as the case I have has plenty of space and a huge amount of flow shouldn't be needed. Home now so on with the pics, haven't found the WC blocks yet but I know I have them somewhere lol. Excuse the quality phone pics today until the missus gets home. The Rad: The Case: The gear to be cooled: Netgear DM111P ADSL Modem Ubiquiti Router Station Pro
WOOT??? when i attach 90mm minebea (USB 5V) on my ADSL modem my wife staring on me very _bad_ and barely run away to call a doctor!!! now You want to LC it?
Got most of the parts so it's cheap. If I do any more to my PC I have to spend money so the missus doesn't mind too much lol
Nice idea .... useless, then necessary for the pump ... something like this could be nice : http://www.micropumps.co.uk/
Didn't know it was such a huge enclosure lol. Thought you were talking about something slightly.. smaller
it's not a question of money (as she barely run away for doc not a lawyer ). she was afraid for my mental health
The routerstation is running ddwrt at the minute but I will be changing it to OpenWRT as I wish to use a USB audio with MPD. Processor is 680mhz and can be OC'd to 800mhz from what I've read.
OpenWRT does not have a GUI straight out of the box so most of the config is done in the command prompt by edit configs, etc. It's pretty much a cut down Linux build but it means there are a lot more applications that can be loaded including USB Audio which I am going to use to do something similar to this. I've not really played with Tomato I should have a look at it, don't think it runs on the Routerstation but I've got a spare Buffalo here somewhere.
Another one that I considered trying...I think I'll have to have a look at my router once again. I am experiencing issues with the uptime of my WRT54G. It seems when I have it on for a few days it locks up and doesn't want to respond. Just another project I have to dig into when I get time.
Was looking at a pump like this just because it's cheap really. Any know of some cheap pumps I could use?
