    Just got linked to this.

Seems Lavasoft, the makers of Ad-Aware have been taken over by a company peddling Adware and as such has its self become a form of malware after it's latest updates. Just a warning if any one still uses it.

Not used it for years and years.

But sad to see the way it went.

Was thinking about this program a few days ago when I was cleaning someone's system. It used to be a great piece of software but I stopped using it after it became pretty bloated and heavy on resources. I also haven't used it for a long time, but was surprised to here this news. Cheers for the post!

Having been stuck in a PC time warp, I still use Ad-aware.

What free programs do people use these days? For me it was always AVG free, Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. Are there free and better alternatives now?

I use MS security essentials, has a much smaller footprint.

My girlfriend updated this the other day and had similar problems listed in the steam link. Managed to finally get it uninstalled and won't be touching AdAware for a while.

It used to be so good, always my go to detection but more recently I was malwarebytes when I scan for that stuff.

Dang! I used to use Ad-aware.. right now it's on my father's desktop and my mother's laptop.. I'll have to tell them to remove the program right away.. Is there a way to remove this completely from the computers??

Uninstalling it did the trick on my mother's laptop that it was on. Just through programs and features in the Control panel. Not sure if it get's more complicated if it has updated to newer version though.
