Hey all Ok, so Ive got to that time where my cards are struggling to keep up. I have 2x 560ti's running 3x 1680x1050 in NVidia surround. The plan is to upgrade the monitors at some point but not just yet due to saving to get married. So im thinking about getting a 970 now, will this run say 3x 24inch 1950 monitors with most games maxed out? Also any recommendation for a card? I'm on a full water loop so will be needing a block too. I'm sure I have read that you can remove the heat sink on a evga without voiding warranty, any truth in this? thanks for any help
a single 970 will not cut a 3x24" set up, you will need 980's SLI imo if you want to be maxing todays games
I don't think that just one 970 will handle three screens at full detail settings (depending on the game of course...) Two 970s in SLI might do the trick, or otherwise 2X 980.
You'd manage your current displays probably (not up at full whack, perhaps) with a single 970, but you'd probably do well to drop another in as and when you upgrade displays. (This triggers another question - why not a superwide display over three 24" 1080P displays?) EVGA do indeed allow removal of coolers to fit waterblocks, leaving the warranty intact. If you want to WC the card, I'd go for one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-Nvidia...ie=UTF8&qid=1429702798&sr=8-3&keywords=970+sc It's an EVGA superclocked card, and it will fit blocks for the 670 (or indeed EK's FC970 block - source: I have both that card and the EK block and backplate). The 970 is a great card - you could do a lot worse. Expecting it to run 3x 1080P displays is a big ask though!
I have 2x GTX970 in SLI running 3x1080 monitors. To max settings on games you will need them both. One of them will run the 3 monitors "ok" but not for maxing settings out.
Thanks for all your Replys. I guess it's best to get a single 970 now then and add another later after the wedding. I should have upgraded the whole rig before proposing, school boy! In regards to the super wide, I've not tried one so can't argue too much but I really like that when I am multi tasking each window snaps into place on each monitor. I'm guessing it won't on a super wide?
sounds like a pretty sensible plan to me. In terms of the windopw snapping, you could try a third party app like DisplayFusion. I'm not 100% sure if it has that functionality, but it does offer a whole load of feature when working with multiple or really large monitors...
Thanks mate, as soon as I get paid I'll order that card. I'll most likely leave it on air for a short while just to make sure it's not a bad card then stick the block on it.
Just an update, I have ordered the evga 970 linked above by jing-sea. The block is going to have to wait because I'm now skint :/ Hopefully to arrive on Tuesday. Thanks for the help
