Electronics EL Wire Question

    How long would it take an EL Wire inverter to die or for the EL Wire itself to die.

    Ive been thinking of stringing some up but without a switch and leaving it constantly on.

    Googled some specs through a retailer:

    Lifespan: 1000 to 25000 hours depending on AC frequency.

    Thats anywhere from 6 to 145 weeks. Ive seen sheets say tylical lifespan is 4000 hours. So Im guessing roughly 24 weeks typical.

    EL wire seems to be at the stage that early flourencent tubes are at. You have to replace it about once-a-year.

    My dad wanted to use EL wire to make a reflective light around his wrap-around deck, Until he found out how long it lasts.

    (His plans now are to use plain light strings.

    if you can afford it, side glow fibre optic cable could be used for the same thing
