For reasons I can no longer remember, I thought it would be a good idea to do a water cooling loop. Then for others reasons I can no longer remember, I thought it would be a good idea to make a radiator. With absolutely no knowledge of thermodynamics other than copper and aluminium are probably good, I bought some stuff and hoped for the best. My 3770k seems to settle around 60C running prime95. Would not recommend and would not try again.
Fully passive yes, and I'm thinking perhaps my CPU block isn't seated quite right. I can share a bit more detail: My first idea was to use 100% copper, using cheap ebay offcuts and cutting them. It turns out you need an expensive guillotine to cut it properly, so that idea was abandoned. Copper sheet that is custom cut is expensive, so I ordered some cut aluminium from aluminium warehouse. The aluminium was drilled with a drill press. The aluminium is mostly kept in place from friction, but with some thermal epoxy in places. The aluminium was reasonably accurately cut, but the main issue was that both the cutting and drilling required more precision than what I could manage, leaving me with a result that isn't quite as uniform/straight as I'd like. The pipe is standard 15mm plumbing copper tube. There's two standard right angle compression fittings at the far end. I have 11mm OD PVC tube, and the only way I could figure out how to connect the two was to use a 15mm to 12mm reducer, and a whole lot of PTFE tape to make up missing 1mm.
Someone did exactly this... called the build something beginning with "H"... HUSH! But between Photobucket wanting to watch the world burn, and Bit-Tech 404ing old forum links good luck...
Yeah, since the site refresh, most of the old forum links are dead. The original thread is here, but the pics were hosted on bit, so those links are broken too.
It looks like if anyone ever gets a 404, all you have to do is take the last six digits of the original URL (the thread number), and paste it into the end of the new URL system. Hush!'s thread number is 171840, so if we take the URL for this thread: https://forums.bit-tech.net/index.php?threads/my-stupid-idea-diy-passive-radiator.333263/ and we replace the 333263 with 171840: https://forums.bit-tech.net/index.php?threads/my-stupid-idea-diy-passive-radiator.171840/ It will resolve to this when loaded: https://forums.bit-tech.net/index.php?threads/project-hush-updated-21-5-11.171840/ Image hosting is mostly dead, but it's a tip for the 404 issue the site has been having.
You can take away the whole thread title from the URL and just use the ID. We're actually working on a permanent solution. Possibly done next week if all goes well
