As the title suggests pls halp. 2 tb hdd 128gb m.2 msi krait gaming mobo ryzen 5 cpu don't know wha else you would need to halp. I installed windows onto the m.2 jus fine but then windows didn't have the hdd allocated so I set it a drive letter and now its recognised as removable media. also I want the hdd to be the primary not the m.2
To stop the rust spinner showing as removeable: Make sure motherboard/sata controller drivers are installed and/or turn off SATA hot-swap or equivalent in the EFI. What do you mean you want the HDD to be the primary? That one's a bit vague.
what I mean is when I download something it defaults to the m.2 drive - I don't get a choice to select which drive it saves to atm. also could you dumb down what you just said pls. whats the efi?
For downloads you have a couple of options... change the defualt save location in the browser [how you do this varies by browser]... or move the Downloads folder EFI = BIOS Motherboard drivers = motherboard drivers SATA Hot-swap = Some motherboards allow for the hot-swapping of SATA HDDs [which is why they can sometimes show as removable in windows], find the setting, if there is one and turn it off.
If I've got the board right [X370 Krait] In the BIOS [EFI]: Advanced Mode [F7] -> Advanced -> Integrated Peripherals -> SATAx Hot Plug -> Set to 'Disabled' ...make sure the motherboard drivers are installed and up to date anyway.
its the b350 krait - I'm having trouble finding sata drivers online. I found raid drivers on msi website ill try the advanced mode bios again but last I checked I didn't see integrated peripherals there.
Chipset drivers, If memory serves the AMD ones include the SATA drivers. Unless you specifically tell them not to most Broswers just plonk all downloads in the user's Downloads folder [which by default is on the drive Windows was installed to], as i said above you have to either move that folder somewhere else or specifically tell the broswer to save somewhere else [or to ask where to save each time]. The relevant settings for Chrome, Edge, Firefox
thanks man ill try that, but now I have another issue. apparently I cant install steam on my version of windows 10 because its not a verified app or whatever? never had this problem when I upgraded windows 7 to windows 10~? wtf
If you see this: Click 'more info' and it should give you the option to 'Run Anyway'. Or turn the feature off completely if you so wish. Windows does have the option to block all non-store apps, but as far as i'm aware it's still turned off by default.
A-ha... You're running Windows 10 S which only allows app store apps. How you've managed that i'm not sure as iirc you can't buy copies of 10 S to install yourself.
so I now need to reinstall windows? I did this off a usb memoy stick but chose windows 10s because I didn't know any better if I choose windows 10 pro will I be ok?
Ok looks like I can format it from the windows installer but should I format each partition or just one or what?
Personally I'd delete all the partitions on the SSD. This should have you covered for anything else you might run into.
Latest USB installer gives you the option of S and N versions of 10 as well as others, I was a bit surprised to see it when I updated my USB disk so I could have the latest version without having to install creators pack after install.
