I've been having some problems with my PC lately. Sometimes when I try to boot, the fans spin up but it goes no further than that. Sometimes I have to power down and try multiple times before it boots. And I had one blue screen, and one instance where the PC just randomly powered down while I was using it. I was thinking that it could be either the mobo or the PSU (could be something else too I suppose. RAM maybe?). Is there any way to know without swapping out components? I'd rather not have to go swapping out the mobo because I'll need to get a new mobo, CPU, and RAM. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!
It would help if you mentioned what the parts were. Failure to boot is most likely motherboard related, I’d imagine. Try going down to a minimal setup with one stick of RAM and such, and see what it does.
Yeah tricky one. I started having random shuttoffs and the odd startup issue before my psu died. Unfortunately you can't say for sure until other parts are tried. You can start with what you have and try what the TheMDD suggests to start with.
Thanks, I'll try running with 1 stick of RAM for a while as TheMDD suggested. I might take out the soundcard as well just in case. If it actually fails completely then I might have a better idea what's causing it, because it's easier to identify a dead PSU than an unstable one.
