Okay, Im looking to get rid of my watercooling setup as my daughter finds it interesting to pull on the hose. So its time to buy a new case and look into quiet air-cooling again. I have an 2800XP and a couple of Maxtor 120GB SATA drives plus the usual cd-rom and DVD-R plus if poss I'd also like to keep my 80GB IDE hdd as well but this is optional. So I need to find a case to hold all this gear and allow me to use the minimum number of fans on 7v or lower to keep it all cool without sounding like a 747. Im already looking at the Aero7 cooler but can someone recommend a case? I run everything at stock and have a couple of quiet evercool 120mm fans Id like to reuse. Budget is max £100 incl p&p
I can recommend the Aero7+. I use that. I mounted the speed adjusting at the back. So when i play games i just crank it up a little. But when only idle i slow it right down....It's real quiet. It cools my xp3000+ down to 32 while playing games. The case is really down to your own taste. A simple *cough* beige one or a all singing all dancing alu one. And do you plan on modding it???
I would have recommended the Lian Li PC-6070, but with your budget, that's right out. Try going with an Antec Sonata case. Nothing but high quality there
Some simple mods maybe. Dunno if I want to go down the window/lighted route again. Have just found this case which meets spec of 120mm fans http://www.tekheads.co.uk/web/product?product=602020& Looks like it might do. Read some reviews which rated it. Anybody got any other ideas?
thats a sweet case! quite a bit of modding potential there...... btw, looking at the price it says something about including and excluding VAT, what is that? is that something UK specific or another term for a PSU?
VAT is (value added tax) Have seen some more reviews on the case and they all date back to Jan 2002. Might be a bit old hat now. So maybe I need to keep looking, but its definately at the top of my maybe list. I have to consider the modding potential if I bought it, to bring it up to date.
Hey Jon that case is neat! 2x120mm, Alu, Wide etc. It has a removable (stainless steel) MOBo tray - the Sonata does'nt.... It has great potential but a bit Old lookin. Mat
wouldn't a simpler solution be to put the side panel on your case or to have a completely internal setup where little exploring hands cant grab?
Look for Compucase's LX-6A19. It's basically a clone of Antec's SLK3700, but cheaper since it doesn't come with an Antec PSU (although if you don't have a good PSU, then you should go for the Antec). 120mm fans front and rear, 4 5.25" bays using rails, 2 external 3.5" bays, and 5 internal 3.5" bays with grommets in the screw holes for noise surpression. As you can probably tell, I own this case, and I'm just about to start modding it.
Im just not confident on having the reservoir inside case. I have also in the past Ive had a pump leak. I think my wife would be a lot happier without the water I'll have a look at the Compucase's LX-6A19 case. Although Ive ordered the YCC one. Will have to see what I can do to the front, becuase I want it to look a bit smarter.
