    Ever Break a Cold Cathode Tube? Raise your hand!

    I'm just sort of curious to see how many people have snapped, crushed, or just plain destroyed a CCT. How many, and how'd you do it?
    I'll start off, I kneeled on one, and broke it in three. My boss did the same to one of hers, and I accidentally caught an inverter on fire. = ) Dang, those things really should come insulated!

    ::edit:: blastid typos!

    I have broken about half a dozen of them at work... all accidentally dropped. I have only blown one Inverter (Reverse Polarity).

    watch out if you dont have the inverter hooked up to the light it will catch fire! atleast with neons. pretty much the same thing though i think.

    i have just found the world of case mods , i did my first widow an cold cath light last week ,, i was surprized just how thin they are , felt like it would snap very easy , an i have big chunky hands LOL but i got it in safe an sound.
    I am planing a neon or a black cc next, just wonderd can u use the rheobus or fan bus to link up the lights and dim them up and down ?
    also tired the code for the black light cc at maplins and it said they dont stock them anymore :(

    AW3K, that story was too funny! Classic.
    millymog, you can hook it up to a fan bus or rheostat, no problem. Most fanbus either use 12v or a combination 12/7v or 12/5v, and that will give a choice between bright or dim, or you can use a rheostat, and get whatever variations you want. I'm not sure of the exact rating you want for your rheostat, but someone else here can tell you, I'm sure.

    Wellll

    the cc was running upside the inside of the case, top to bottom behind the ridge the side slidies into, it didnt have the side of the case on, and i pick up the case via the cc,

    When you get it, you will get packaging in like a U shape. Put the cold cathode in the small groove (carefully) and it will protect it really well

    Its what I do...and I know what I'm doing with em

    Ive just witnesed first hand what its like to see a cathode pop,

    Proof that my soldering is supremly dodgy, (just ask Cheeseman)

    i was moving somethinging in my case when a wire came losem hit the cathode, sparks flew like on a date with britney and Prince wills, *hiss* crack, crumble,

    another cathode, crumbled.

    :mad:
